Obama Sets the Record Straight

by Rohan Parker

Speaking at a rally in South Carolina, Barack Obama has set the record straight about his Christian faith; asserting that internet rumours claiming he is a Muslim are “crazy”.

A widely reported, and recently debunked chain email has claimed that the popular Democrat is a Muslim and may in fact have links to terrorism. Observers have noted that this type of slanderous rumor, whatever it’s origin, clearly seeks to play on existing prejudices regarding Muslims, and on lingering fears of terrorism.

In an effort to dispel this latest campaign hiccup, Obama has spoken out to reaffirm his Christian faith. “I’ve been to the same church — the same Christian church — for almost 20 years,” he said to an approving audience during his campaign in the Bible Belt. “I was sworn in with my hand on the family Bible. Whenever I’m in the United States Senate, I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. So if you get some silly e-mail … send it back to whoever sent it and tell them this is all crazy. Educate.”
