Archbishop Supports Sharia Law for UK

by Rohan Parker

In an interview on Radio 4’s ‘World at One’ Dr Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury, stated that the UK needs to acknowledge the fact that not all of the population identifies with the British legal system.

The argument put forward by Dr Williams is that the adoption of critical parts of Sharia law could help to build a more integrated society within the UK.

Dr Williams cited an example in which members of the Muslim community, in the event of either marital or financial dispute, could litigate in a Sharia court.

The interview closed with Dr Williams stating that the Muslim community should not be expected for forgo their cultural loyalty in lieu of loyalty to the state.
