Mormon Church Continues To Stew Over Illegal Immigrants

by Rohan Parker

Debate has once again been sparked within Mormon circles as to whether illegal immigrants should be allowed access to LDS Churches and be baptized within them.

Church Elder, Marlin K. Jensen, stated that the church’s view on the situation was that, whilst there is nothing intrinsically wrong with being an illegal immigrant, it would however be somewhat akin to civil trespass for them to attend a LDS church.

The comments where given last Wednesday when an audience member directed a question at the Elder at an interfaith forum on immigration at Westminster College.

At this stage, LDS do request their clergy to question current or prospective members seeking access to their temples, regarding the citizen ship status, and do not have an official stance on illegal immigrants.
