Evolution is finally going to be taught conspicuously in Florida schools, with the Board of Education approving new science standards last Tuesday. However their is still some controversy to the teachings, as the board has decided the subject to be taught as ‘the scientific theory of evolution’.
When Evolution was initially proposed in the new science curriculum, the word theory was not a part of the outline, however due to a backlash of complaints, the Board of Education has relented and included the word. At this stage, however, this new change of words will be spread across the entire scope of science curriculum, with every subject to be labeled either a law or a theory.
The new standard was reached with a 4 to 3 vote by the board.
