Religious Leader to Face Rape Charges

by Rachael Grant

In South Korea, the leader of a religious sect was extradited back from China to face charges of rape.

The Jesus Morning Star sect leader, Jung Myung-seok, 63, had been on the run for more than six years when he was finally arrested. Authorities in China were asked to arrest him and send him back home so he could face the charges presented against him.

Kim Hye-woong, a Justice Ministry official, confirmed that Jung will be facing the same charges that were outlined in the previous year’s extradition request.

Reports from local media said that followers of Jung were forced to have group sex with him, and were raped, under the justification by Jung that God allowed him all women in the world, and that they would be in severe trouble if they didn’t comply.

His followers say that Jung denies all of the charges.

Followers, who waited at the airport for Jung’s arrival, termed the charges as ‘distorted rumours’, and believed that the truth would come out.
