Anglican Church Padlocked Due to Migrating Congregation

by Rachael Grant

The Anglican Church of Canada padlocked a church in Toronto where the congregation voted to go to another church because of their views on same-sex marriage.

Last month, parishioners of St Chad’s voted to join with the Anglican Network in Canada, a conservative group that operates under Buenos Aires-based Archbishop Gregory Venables, who is the leader of the Anglican Province of the Southern Cone.

“Parishioners have the absolute right to choose where they wish to worship - what they don’t have is the right to take the building with them,” was the message given out by Bishop Phillip Poole, who said that the church has been locked to allow for a cooling-off period.

It has been reported that there are another nine churches in Canada who have joined the Southern Cone, who are against female priests and same-sex marriages.
