Obama’s Grandmother Weighs In On False Claims
by Rohan Parker
In a village in Kenya called Kogelo, lives the 86-year-old grandmother of U.S. Senator, and presidential hopeful, Barack Obama. Last Wednesday, Sarah Hussein Obama was interviewed on the false claims made about her grandson in the lead up to the U.S. presidential election.
Sarah is known for her neat and happy demeanor, but when asked about the continued rumor mongering regarding her grandson, her smile falls away to be replaced by a hard frown. In the local language of Luo she says the untruths that are being spread around do not have anything to do with what Barack stands for and that she is strongly against the lies and false accusations.
In the lead up to the Democratic presidential nomination Obama’s campaign took a hit on Tuesday when U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton, who has been behind Obama in the polls for most of the race, took out the important states of Texas and Ohio as well as a strong win in Rhode Island. Though Obama is still in the lead, he won only Vermont on Tuesday.
