U.S. To Cultivate Understanding With Muslim Community

by Rohan Parker

At a ceremony at the State Department in Washington, DC., Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice announced to ambassadors from the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) that President George W. Bush had selected an envoy to attend the conference in an effort to dispel some of the misperceptions the international Muslim community seems to have of the U.S.

This envoy, Sada Cumber, a Pakistani-born businessman from Texas, is the first ever envoy to the conference from the U.S. and this is the first time Bush has ever made such an appointment.

The responsibility of Cumber is to promote understanding of the U.S. at the OIC. As a part of the announcement, Rice stated that this is just one part of bigger plan to increase understanding and engagement with the international Muslim community.
