Pope To Speak On Church Abuse

by Rohan Parker

During the Popes imminent trip to the U.S. later this month, he is to speak on abuse from within the church when he meets with American clergy in St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York in an effort to heal some of the wounds caused by the ongoing crisis.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone talked about the Pope’s intention of encouraging hope and trust, and to foster a new beginning to healing and reconciliation.

Whilst Bertone said that the ongoing abuse crisis has caused much pain and grief for victims and their families, but that it was, overall, the church which had been most greatly damaged as it went against so much of their teachings and missions.
