April 15, 2008Dalai Lama Speaks Out For Protesters
by Rohan Parker
During a stop over in Tokyo en route to Seattle, the Dalai Lama spoke with reporters about the ongoing turmoil between Tibetans and Chinese rulers.
The Dalai Lama said that Tibet has always been in support of China hosting the Olympics, but that he did not believe they or anyone else had any right to try to stop protesters looking for freedom speaking out.
He also stressed to reporters that he and Tibet were not against China hosting the games, and that he was saddened at the Chinese government’s attempts to portray him as an insurrectionist.
Protests have been occurring across the globe, following the path of the Olympic torch. The Dalai Lama advocated that these protesters not become violent.
