Yet more controversy has been stirred around the Strong City cult this week, with the news that leader Wayne Bent (self-titled as Jesus; Michael Travesser by his friends) has been arrested on the suspicion of sexual abuse and the contribution towards the delinquency of a minor.
It has not yet been revealed whether the arrest has been linked to the removal of children from the cult earlier in the week (now reported to be two girls and a boy, all under eighteen).
Sgt. Bobby Long of the Clayton Police department has revealed that Bent is being detained at the Union County Detention Centre in Clayton, under three counts of sexual contact with a minor, as well as three counts of contributing to the delinquency of children.
Long commented that the arrest took place without any fuss or problems from within the cult.
Bent, who has admitted to having sex with some of his followers, including his own son’s wife, still denies earlier allegations that he has sex with underage virgins he has said to have laid naked with on his bed.
In response to the removal of the three children from the Strong City community, Bent announced, on his website, that he considered it to be kidnapping by the State.
He still maintains, though the allegations are starting to pile up, that he has not committed any crime.
