Sir Cliff endorses gay marriage

by David Masters

Pop legend Cliff Richard, 67, has published his latest autobiography, My Life, My Way, this week, in which he reveals that for the past seven years he has lived with a former Catholic Priest.

The singer describers 60 year old Father John McElynn as a ‘blessing’, ‘close friend’, and ‘companion’.

Cliff criticises the view that only married people can be happy, calling it a ‘mistake’ and confessing that he is not sure being married would make him any happier.

A committed Christian, Cliff thinks the church must move with the times and give its blessing to same sex marriages.

He also expressed his frustration at the media’s speculation over his sexual orientation, saying that an individual’s identity and sexual orientation is not anyone else’s business.

In 1995 Cliff Richard was the first ever pop star to be awarded a knighthood.

In a career spanning six decades he has risen to number one in the charts 14 time, including a number of Christian hits.
