Sikh temple opens in Warwickshire
by Sara Levy
A new multi-million pound Sikh temple opened its doors in Leamington Spa this weekend.
The £11 million Gurdwara Sahib, meaning ‘house of God’, took 19 months to build, and will serve as a house of worship and a community centre.
The temple, which was entirely funded by the Sikh community, will host open days, tours, and school visits to teach people about the Sikh religion.
Food cooked in the Gurdwara’s kitchen will be given to local people in need.
A spokesperson for the temple said the Gurdwara’s impact will “reach far beyond the Sikh congregation.”
“It represents hope for the entire community – we truly believe the whole community will benefit,” he said.
He added that the temple’s opening was a “true milestone” for the Sikh community in Leamington and Warwick.
