Transsexual Jesus offends Christians

Conservative Christian groups have held protests this week outside a Glasgow theatre production in which Jesus is portrayed as a transsexual woman.

Around 300 protesters held a candlelit vigil out the Tron Theatre to mark their disagreement with its current play, Jesus, Queen of Heaven.

Placards held up by the campaigners included “God: My Son Is Not A Pervert” and “Jesus, King of Kings, Not Queen of Heaven.”

The play, which opened last night, is part of the Glasgay! arts festival, which celebrates gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transsexual culture in Scotland.

It has been condemned by the Christian Institute and the Roman Catholic Church as deliberately provocative and a waste of taxpayers’ money.

Baptist pastor Jack Bell, who attended the protest, said: “True biblical Christianity is becoming marginalised through political correctness.

“If this play had treated the prophet Mohammed in the same way there would have been a strong reaction from the Islamic community, but that just wouldn’t happen.”

Glasgay! festival organisers said they’d decided to put on the play based on its artistic merit.

“Jesus Queen of Heaven is a literary work of fiction exploring the artist’s own personal journey of faith as a transgendered person,” said Glasgay! producer Steven Thomson.

“Glasgay! supports the right to freedom of expression and offers audiences a diverse view of LGBT life.”

Jo Clifford, who wrote the play and performs the Christ role in the production, added: “This is a play with music that presents her sayings, her miracles, and her testimony.

“And she does not condemn the gays or the queers or the trans women or the trans men, and no, not the straight women nor the straight men neither.

“Because she is the daughter of God, most certainly, and almost as certainly the son also. And God’s child condemns nobody. She can only love.”

    As a French transsexual, the playwright Jo is right to make a connection between Jesus the outcast and the transsexuals. The transsexuals across the world are persecuted, harassed, discriminated against, executed and assassinated because they want to make their dream real. The transsexuals are as decent as the heterosexuals (straight people). As transsexuals, we are forced into prostitution by the ‘decent’ straight society which rejects and persecutes us on a daily basis. We are at the bottom of the social ladder. Yes, we all are a Jesus who continues to suffer in a very hateful society.
