    How to meditate for beginners?

Does anyone have any recommended resources on how to meditate for beginners? Meaning, I can search for online guides and videos myself - but I would like to know if anyone here meditates and if so if they have any resources they've used that they would recommend?

be gone the standing empty cross

Ok, I think we got the message earlier - there's disagreement how exactly someone might be taken off a cross. However, the discussion is running in circles now and therefore run its course, but is getting nasty with comments such as this: In which case, thread closed.

    New reactions

Just to let everyone know that I've just activated a couple of the default reactions that come with the forum software - we now have wow, sad, and angry reactions. :) Not a big change, but I did notice their absence and seemed harmless enough. No plans to activate the dislike button, though. :)

    Evolution is Unscientific

It's interesting but appears dependent on an awful lot of speculation, specifically trying to force details into prehistory such as ascribing PIE language roots to Mesolithic peoples existing thousands of years previously. I don't know of any serious research that would argue for that because of...

    Evolution is Unscientific

I have read quite a lot about PIE, and I have never seen any suggestion that it dates before around 4,000 BC. Though a quick look at Wikipedia suggests there is a discredited Hindu nationalist claim that might be your source.

The Garden of Eden from a Jewish perspective

Btw, our Jewish members are welcome to give their personal perspectives. :) I'm especially interested in: 1. Is the Garden real or allegorical? 2. What was the serpent? 3. What is the importance of both the Tree of Life and Tree of Knowledge

The Garden of Eden from a Jewish perspective

I just thought I'd ask - the Garden of Eden section of Genesis is commonly discussed among Christians/non-Christians, but I would be curious to know any Jewish perspectives on this - especially about the Tree of Life and the serpent. From past experience, I expect there are a fair number of...

    The Three Magi

A long time ago I read an interesting suggestion that the 3 wise men from the east were supposed to be Jews (Rabbis?) from Baghdad, where a huge Jewish community had developed after they were taken there after a conquest of Israel centuries before (sorry, forget which empire which did this -...

    New Messiahs

Interesting, I've not read this - when I used to read up on it one of apparent fundamentals was that people would experience a vision of an afterlife based on their cultural expectations.

Why I take the Bible literally

Just a heads up that this is the Christianity section, where people are invited to ask interested questions of other Christians rather than attempt to directly challenge their faith. After all, this is an Interfaith website, not a random free-for-all bulletin board. :)

    What do you look like?

Yeah gods, this is such an old thread! Things have changed a lot in the past 20 years, but it was nice seeing images of old members long gone again, even if the attachments aren't working properly.

    Do you listen to audiobooks?

Just wondered if anyone here listens to audiobooks? I'm especially curious to know if American listeners prefer to hear a narrator with a US accent rather than say a British one?

Did Most Early Christians Believe The Divinity of Christ?

When I saw him come in and raise a whole string of Trinity threads I wondered whether I'd need to act, but then read your post encouraging them to try and keep it to one thread so I thought I'd see how it went. So far it seems to have petered out except for one or two threads as excepted. As...

The New Roman "Interfaith" Religion - the End of Animal Sacrifices

Well, from a purely historical standpoint, these arguments don't seem to work - they comes across as simplistic generalizations that are hard to justify once you start getting into the actual history of the period. While it's a popular modern idea that religion exists to control the masses...

The Archeology of the Kingdom of God: Diving a Bit Deeper into a Baha'i Approach to Metaphysics

Just a heads-up that this is the Baha'i board, so it is intended to be a place where people can have respectful discussions about issues relating to the Baha'i faith. That of course includes asking difficult questions, but if all someone wants to do is combat another faith with their own (or...

    Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)

Okay, finally watched this film. Though I've enjoyed some of Queen's singles I wouldn't really describe myself as a fan and didn't really know anything about the band's history. The film started slow and felt a bit flat, but it slowly but surely built up momentum so that by the end of the film...
