I'm a "professional student" (as my late mother used to call it.) Rarely have I met a book that I didn't like (I look at the inside cover, the back cover and page fifty to see whether the author has gotten into the story anywhere, and whether I'm interested in the premise.) The only exceptions...
Changing the subject here (and to add another person with an "interesting" allergy):
The "receipt" for Key Lime Pie, plus two different discussions about the pie (one is about where the pie came from and the other is a "discussion" about the host's allergy to egg whites...)

Vegetarian mousaka, sweetened decaffeinated Earl Grey tea and the ubiquitous medications ("dessert" iykwim.)
The Trio have their crunchies and Milwaukee tap water (some of you might know what I'm talking about...)

Talk about changing the plotline!

Who...
A "Senior Moments" anthem, but perfect/"purrfect" for everyone IMHO:
In case it's taken down, the song is Get Up and Go by the Weavers (in case y'all want to look it up later...)

Some of us are vegetarians/vegans for whatever reason. I was interested in the tomato pie "receipt" (no meat!) for that reason (allergies suck canal water, y'ken?)
Phyllis Sidhe_Uaine
A couple of Tom Lehrer "classics" that the OFs might remember/enjoy (one is Pollution and the other is Lobachevsky <in case either one is taken down and/or y'all want to listen on YouTube>)
Phyllis Sidhe_Uaine
A couple of "receipts" that kinda originated in Philadelphia (one's not for those for those who can't/won't eat pork products for whatever reason):
