Know thou that according to mathematical principles, the firmament of this earth's brilliant day-star hath been divided among twelve constellations, which they call the twelve zodiacal signs.

In the same way, the Sun of Truth shineth out from and sheddeth its bounties through twelve stations of holiness, and by these heavenly signs are meant those stainless and unsullied personages who are the very well-springs of sanctity, and the dawning-points proclaiming the oneness of God.

Consider how in the days of the Interlocutor (Moses), there were twelve holy beings who were leaders of the twelve tribes;

and likewise in the dispensation of the Spirit (Christ), note that there were twelve Apostles gathered within the sheltering shade of that supernal Light, and from those splendid dawning-points the Sun of Truth shone forth even as the sun in the sky.

Again, in the days of Muhammad, observe that there were twelve dawning-points of holiness, the manifestors of God's confirming help. Such is the way of it.

Accordingly did Saint John the Divine tell of twelve gates in his vision, and twelve foundations. By 'that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God' is meant the holy Law of God, and this is set forth in many Tablets and still to be read in the Scriptures of the Prophets of the past: for instance, that Jerusalem was seen going out into the wilderness.

The meaning of the passage is that this heavenly Jerusalem hath twelve gates, through which the blessed enter into the City of God. These gates are souls who are as guiding stars, as portals of knowledge and grace; and within these gates there stand twelve angels. By 'angel' is meant the power of the confirmations of God -- that the candle of God's confirming power shineth out from the lamp-niche of those souls -- meaning that every one of those beings will be granted the most vehement confirming support.

These twelve gates surround the entire world, that is they are a shelter for all creatures. And further, these twelve gates are the foundation of the City of God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and on each one of these foundations is written the name of one of the Apostles of Christ. That is to say, each one maketh manifest the perfections, the joyous message, and the excellency of that holy Being.

Twelve stations of holiness...

Interesting....

Now are these 12 stations the twelve gates that are referred to or all the 'twelves'?

As I understand it the leaders of the 12 tribes weren't quite so holy....they had some pretty petty issues. And some interesting changes were made to the twelve...

Of course some changes had to be made to Jesus's twelve as well as Judas extracated himself from the group his following ...go quickly and do what you have to do. ...

As well there seems to be an addition to our constellations....a thirteenth...

But what I was looking for when I opened the thread was a misread, I thought it said the Twelve states of holiness... and was looking to see how the corresponded to the fillmorian 12 holy powers, attributes, or gifts from G!d to humans...

They are all the twelves of the Abrahamic faiths... you might find the following interested:

Just hit ctrl+f (or other keybinding for searching within document) and search for "ASTROLOGICAL SYMBOLISM"

Of course, this is a single mans research into the topic, so while the entire book is intriguing and insightful, it is flawed to attach his views to that of all Baha'is. Baha'is are free to draw their own conclusions provided it does not compete with their scripture, but I think it is interesting all the same.

I would find it surprising if the twelve attributes didn't correspond to the zodiac as well, but I will not attempt to align them to particular signs as this is uninteresting.

could you tell us more about 12 Dawning points in the days of mohamed please.

For the Baha'is, this corresponds to the 12 Imam's of Shi'a tradition.

The Twelvers built their entire tradition around the 12th who went missing due to persecution. The Qa'im was supposed to return and for Baha'is this was fulfilled with the Bab. They also say that the Bab is the Mahdi and Isa (Jesus) predicted by Muhammad himself, and of course Bab's principle teaching is that he is as Elijah and John in signalling a more important Manifestation after himself: Baha'u'llah.

If you enjoy mysteries, the Baha'i Faith is quite interesting to look in to, and certainly it seems to have the best situation for how the Abrahamic faiths can come together again, as well as providing a rationale for other major religions to come together. That said, the method is questionable, each group must let go of certain beliefs they feel strongly about - a type of consultation in a way for them all, finding common ground upon joining. The proofs are quite compelling though, and the texts present quite the wordsmith - few texts have had quite the affect on me personally as Baha'u'llahs writings.

I would recommend it for no other reason than providing a platform to consider openly all of the faiths of the world - one of the basic tenants is the oneness of religion, so attempting to discover what that core is is quite eye opening. It is beautiful in many ways, but a lot of it also is clearly stuck in the past.

Well I was thinking there were twelve disciples of Muhammad and since it refers to the "days of Muhammad" that's a possible reference

The following year, on the occasion of the pilgrimage, there came a group of twelve disciples ready to acknowledge Muhammad as their Prophet. The group of men comprised five of the six who had met the Prophet (Peace be upon him) the year before, the sixth who stayed away was Jabir bin ‘Abdullah bin Reyab, the other seven were:

  1. Mu‘adh bin Al-Harith, Ibn ‘Afra, from Khazraj.
  2. Dhakwan bin ‘Abd Al-Qais, from Khazraj.
  3. ‘Ubadah bin As-Samit, from Khazraj.
  4. Yazeed bin Tha‘labah, from Khazraj.
  5. ‘Al-‘Abbas bin ‘Ubadah bin Nadalah, from Khazraj.
  6. Abul Haitham bin At-Taihan, from Aws.
  7. ‘Uwaim bin Sa‘idah, from Aws.
They avowed their faith in Muhammad (Peace be upon him) as a Prophet and swore: “We will not worship any one but one Allah; we will not steal; neither will we commit adultery, nor kill our children; we will not utter slander, intentionally forging falsehood and we will not disobey you in any just matter.” When they had taken the pledge, Muhammad (Peace be upon him) said: “He who carries it out, Allâh will reward him; and who neglects anything and is afflicted in this world, it may prove redemption for him in the Hereafter; and if the sin remains hidden from the eyes of the men and no grief comes to him, then his affair is with Allâh. He may forgive him or He may not.”

but as above it could possibly refer to the Twelve Imams as they were also "manifestor's of God's confirming help.."

Thanks for your comments "Lunitik"...

I suppose all of us have a past and a future. It seems to me in my view a lot of the Faith is "future" oriented as well since it devolves on the House of Justice to see that so many things will be done..

But in the course of times and future centuries, the signs thereof will be manifested, the lights thereof will dawn, the fragrance thereof will be diffused, and the greatness, the importance thereof will be known.
