Bigger than a 'giant squid' - 'colossal squid'

Here's an interesting news item - a species of squid caught in trawler nets that promises to be bigger than even the 'giant squid'. Make room for the 'colossal squid'...

Has anyone here ever tasted squid? I have never dared to try.

Cephalopods are so highly intellligent that I'd never wish to harm one anyway, let alone eat one!

The whole range of cephalopods, from octopi, squid, and cuttlefish, are all highly intelligent and have wonderfully complex seeming communication systems. A group fo creatures to be fascinated by for their mystery, not taste

Speaking of which, a 13-ton grey mass, recently washed up onto a Chilean beach, is being touted either as the remains of a giant octopus or giant squid. It will definitely be interesting to see what the DNA results are like.

Article with pictures here:

Chilean blob could be octopus

Coward... Heh.

It is my aim to eat every type of living thing before I die... I have pretty much eaten alot of things Some barley legal... but what happens in China/Japan stays there :P

Squid is a very delicate taste... Very tough to eat... Kind of like eating rubber.. You have to have sharp teeth and a strong jaw to defeat the squid.

Anyway these Colossal squids, they are awesome... I saw a nature programe that followed the sperm whale on its travels... And it simulates this whale fighting one of these squids.... I have had a fear of water long before I found out about the colossal.... But, I wouldn't want to meet one of them fellahs... Specially a female one.

It's only tough if cooked improperly. And it only has a nasty fish taste if it's started to decay - so if you get it like that, demand a refund. Fresh and properly cooked, it's only vaguely chewy and tastes anywhere from nothing to whatever you stuffed, breaded or otherwise cooked it with. It's good stuff. No fear!

Wil, you are way beyond standards of decency!
I don't think it ever crossed my mind to eat raw octopus or squid, well maybe with a bit of lemon juice I could.

Re: Bigger than a 'giant squid' - 'colossal squid'

I had to look up the 'Chilean Blob' because wow. Maybe I'm a freak, but I HAD to see that. For anyone else who checks it out, I'm posting the DNA results identifying the thing. So as not to spoil the suspense for the uninitiated, I'm hiding it. Highlight the area below to see what the blob was.

A load of sperm whale skin. How disappointing! I wanted it to be a giant octopus.
