Udder Compassion
When Geshe Rabten was explaining the difference between boundless compassion and great compassion to a small group of students in a monastery in Switzerland, he gave the analogy of different ways of responding to a cow that has gotten bogged down in a sewage pit. A person who had cultivated boundless compassion would view the cow as if it were his dear friend, and he would try and free it with ropes and the assistance of other people helping out from the firm ground outside the pit. But a bodhisattva with great compassion, taking personal responsibility for the cow's rescue, would do everything possible to free it, including jumping down into the pit.

When one of his students askes whehter we should regard ourselves as being like the bodhisattva, Geshe Rabten said bluntly, "You're the cow!"

Oh, I like jokes !

Here you have another one :

One day a rabbi, priest, and a buddist went out in a boat fishing and pretty soon their fishing lines got tied up.

The priest says, "Well, I'll go and untangle it."

He steps out of the boat, sank two inches in the water, walked to the lines and untangled them, and walked back.

The rabbi says, "It's a miracle! Amazing! How did you do that?"

The priest says "Well, it was no problem."

They go back to fishing and some time later the lines were tangled again.

This time the buddist says, "Well, I'll go and untangle it."

He steps out of the boat, sank two inches in the water, walked to the lines and untangled them, and walked back.

The rabbi says,"It's a miracle! Is it from God? How did you do that?"

The buddist says, "It was easy. No problem at all."

So they went back to fishing and again the lines got all tangled up. The priest begins to step out of the boat but the rabbi says, "No! This time I'll do it."

He steps out of the boat and quickly sinks to the bottom.

The priest turns to the buddist and says, "I guess we should've told him about the rocks."

this is an old and often heard buddhist story, but it still strikes me as funny.

an old monk and a young monk were travelling together when they came to a river at which a young woman was standing, afraid to cross. the young monk, mindful of his vows, turned his eyes away from the young woman and waded across the river. the older monk, however, picked up the woman and carried her on his shoulders across the river. the two monks walked on in silence for a while until the younger monk burst out "what was that? we have taken solemn vows never to look at a woman, much less touch her." the older monk responded "what? are you still carrying that young woman? i put her down at the river's bank."
