As you may gather from my user name, I am a Rastafarian in Canada. I do not know if there are other Rastas on the forum, but hopefully if there is we can reason together.



I hope to gain some wisdom and knowledge, and give some as well.

I have two questions: First, should I start a thread explaining Rastafarianism, and if I did which forum would it be?? I am thinking the General Monotheism forum, but I don't know. Also if I could a sense of what people know about Rastafarians that would be nice.

I, Brian most Rastas haven't even read the Kebra (and it is paramount to our faith). I have only just started recently to read it but I knew the story before. I would be extremely surprised and ecstactic if someone on the forum has read the "Glory of the Kings".

Dear CanuckRasta,
I know a little about Canadians but nothing about Rastafarians. Please enlighten me as to what the basic tenets of your faith are as I am curious. Sad to say at this stage I am quite ignorant about what Rastas are all about.

It is a more structured form of Jamican Patois (Patwas).

Often Rastafarians will replace the beginning of words with an "I".

In this case Selassie I bless continually and/or eternally.

Sort of. The letter is fairly important from psycological standpoint.

For example, pronouns are often replaced with "I and I" (shortened to InI). The phrase essentially came about because there is no you, no me there is only InI. It also said to mean the speaker and Jah. Another time I is used is when refering to the listener, as in "the I."

Other examples of the I replacing something are: Ifficial, Iniversal, Ithiopia, Irusalem, Iysos Kristos, Inity, and so on. In addition, the letter can be inserted between pretty much any two words.

I rarely use such conventions except in greeting or ending a post. On here it would just confuse people in general. On Rasta forums, it confuses newcomers, and to be honest I can only overstand so much of it myself.

For your info here is the full title of Haile Selassie among Rastas: the Most High, His Imperial Majesty, JAH RasTafari, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Conquering Lion of Judah, Haile Selassie I the First, Might of the Trinity, Elect of God, None before, none after, Prince Melchezidek.
