Christian university fires transgender professor
A private, Christian university is firing a transgender professor who began appearing as a woman on campus in 2005.
John Nemecek, 55, who goes by Julie Marie Nemecek and often wears a wig and dress, is fighting the dismissal by Spring Arbor University, which takes effect June 1.
The ordained Baptist minister has filed a discrimination claim with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission...

Re: Christian university fires transgender professor
lol... whats ur opinion, blazn? u've posted this bit of news but havent said whether u think its alright or not...
my opinion, even though I consider myself to be tolerant, is that they are right to sack him/her... I base this on no other reason than that I don't believe in transexualism...
I believe, that when we crawl out of the womb, we either have boys bits or girls bits, or if ur really unlucky/lucky, u might have both and be a hermaphrodite... unless u are a hermaphrodite, u are either one or the other... I don't go for this transgender thing at all, and consider it to be a form of mental illness to consider yourself born in the wrong body, as if thats possible, and rather than have surgical interventions, I think these ppl need some intensive psychotherapy...
I can understand ppl getting sexual kicks from dressing up as the opposite sex, and have no problem with that, and I have no problem with homosexuals blurring the boundaries of gender stereotypes, girls acting like boys and boys acting like girls, but this transsexualism stuff I find more than a little troubling...
so, considering that we have all been discussing the issue of homosexuality recently, and I have accused ppl of bigotry, I would like to tie my colours to the mask and say yes- I too, am bigoted...
gender dysphoria means nothing else than "to be unhappy with ur gender"... it is not a medical condition, its purely psychological... if he dressed up in a frock because he was making a point, if because he was deliberately being politically provocative, then yes, I could see his point, but to need to have ur penis chopped off to feel "whole", well... its a bit freaky...

Re: Christian university fires transgender professor
I of course say if they decided to fire him good for them.
They should be able to hire and fire anyone they want as a private Christian university they should stand up for some kind of morals.
Kudos to Spring Arbors University.

Re: Christian university fires transgender professor
i see a few things going on here.
first of all, it is a private school so they can hire and fire whoever they want.
secondly, there is a moral standard they are trying to uphold. i would guess it is because a transgendered person is in perpetual sin; therefore, is unfit to teach the bible.
thirdly, this kind of sin is visually and morally offensive to many and does not represent the school nor can the school condone that lifestyle.
and lastly, society as a whole still sees gender as male or female, and churches see transgender as sinful perversion.
