Designer babies

Well, the British press is in uproar today over the idea of a "designer baby" being born in the UK.

Here's the article:

'Designer baby' born to UK couple

Is the couple really being so unreasonable in their choosing? Or is this really opening a can of worms? Were they making a real informed choice on embryos that would otherwise be destroyed anyway - or is this all playing God with the future well-being of humanity?

I'm with the parents on this. A life or death medical condition is different from choosing for eye-colour.
