how vital it is to look to the right example! In this regard, there is no better example than God himself. "Become imitators of God," urges the inspired Christian apostle.—Eph. 5:1.

Re: Earthquake

EARTHQUAKES

‘There
will be earthquakes in one place after another.’—Matthew 24:7; Mark 13:8; Luke 21:11.

The earth shakes from more than a million quakes a year, 3,000 of them forceful enough to move the earth’s surface noticeably.

Modern scientific instruments are finely tuned to note and record even the slightest quake. But Jesus foretold "great earthquakes." (Luke 21:11) Has the frequency of these really changed?

It has never required sensitive mechanisms to tell us when major quakes strike.

Since 1914 the yearly average of reported severe earthquakes has soared to over 11 times what it was during the thousand years before then.

Is more than that required to fulfill the prophecy?

Please indicate your source of statistics. While it is obvious that today we are able to record more, report more, and track the data. 11 times more reported earthquakes does not mean there were any more earthquakes.

It is information like this without substantiation that calls any other statements into question.

Re: Earthquake

modern earthquakes have been widespread, some occurring in places where they have never before been known.

They have also been "great" in terms of the number killed, property ruined and even in their power.

In highly respected reference works we read, for instance, of some of the great earthquakes since 1914

China (1920), one of the most appalling catastrophes in history.

Japan (1923), "the worst disaster in [Japan’s] history."

Pakistan (1935), "one of the greatest earthquakes of history."

El Salvador (1951), "the most destructive quake in El Salvador’s history."

Egypt (1955), "Egypt experienced the worst earthquake in its history."

Afghanistan (1956), "believed to be the worst in the history of the country."

Chile (1960), "No earthquake in history has ever had a greater range than this."

Alaska (1964), "the largest earthquake ever recorded in North America."

Peru (1970), "the worst natural disaster on record in the Western Hemisphere."

This partial list should impress on us that Jesus’ words, "there will be earthquakes in one place after another," and "great earthquakes," have indeed come true .

yes ,since 1914 the signs of the times are happening on a worldwide scale , and earthquakes are just one part of the signs Jesus spoke of ,and there have been more since then.

Re: Earthquake

some Major Earthquakes Between 1914 and 1982

(Incomplete list)
YEAR LOCATION DEATHS
1915 Avezzano, Italy 29,970
1920 Kansu, China 200,000
1923 Kanto, Japan 142,800
1932 Kansu, China 70,000
1934 Bihar-Nepal, India 10,700
1935 Quetta, Pakistan 60,000
1939 Chillan, Chile 30,000

1980 Algeria 20,000
1980 Italy 3,000
1978 Northeastern Iran 25,000

Other major earthquakes were recorded in some 33 places

earthquake Deaths(estimation based on 1,122 years

Up to 1914—1,800 a year

Since 1914—25,300 a year

many people say , well the numbers have gone up because there are more people around now, but that does not change the fact that Jesus foretold that there would be earthquakes he was spot on .

What can be said about the foretold earthquakes?
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the number of earthquakes powerful enough to destroy buildings has averaged 17 a year since 1990 alone.
On average, earthquakes strong enough to cause almost total destruction of buildings have occurred once each year.
"Earthquakes have claimed hundreds of thousands of lives in the last 100 years,One reason for this is that since 1914 many large population centers have developed in earthquake zones.

Re: Earthquake

What numbers? The victim rate? Because, that doesn't actually go in a pattern it is just random... Such as if you are going to state they are going to get worse and worse, the last recorded Earthquake on this planet... There were zero deaths and one casuality... lol :P They seem to be randomly high or low.

Re: Earthquake

Namaste Mee,

I can't decide whether I am an Ostriche or you are Chicken Little.

Detailed montioring of earthquakes it appears started in 1918, must have been instigated by Jesus in his first term in office.

Re: Earthquake

What, then, are we to conclude about how Jesus answered the apostles’ inquiry? matthew 24;3

His prophecy accurately foretold things leading up to and encompassing the destruction of Jerusalem, and it mentioned some things to follow 70 C.E.

But most of this was to have a second and greater fulfillment in the future, leading up to a great tribulation that would end the present wicked system of things.

This means that Jesus’ prediction at Matthew 24:4-22, and the parallels in Mark and Luke, were fulfilled from 33 C.E. through the tribulation of 70 C.E.

Yet, the same verses would have a second fulfillment, which would include a greater tribulation in the future. This larger fulfillment is with us; we can see it daily.

Professor Walter L. Liefeld writes: "It is certainly possible to assume that Jesus’ predictions incorporated two phases: (1) the events of A.D. 70 involving the temple and (2) those in the distant future, described in more apocalyptic terms."

The commentary edited by J. R. Dummelow says: "Many of the most serious difficulties of this great discourse disappear when it is realised that our Lord referred in it not to one event but to two, and that the first was typical of the second. . . . [Luke] 21:24 especially, which speaks of ‘the times of the Gentiles,’ . . . places an indefinite interval between the fall of Jerusalem and the end of the world."

While he was sitting upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples approached him privately, saying: "Tell us, When will these things be, and what will be the sign of your presence and of the conclusion of the system of things?" matthew 24;3

"For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be food shortages and earthquakes in one place after another. All these things are a beginning of pangs of distress. matthew 24;7-8

yes its all happening since 1914 ,first world war 1914 followed by food shortages and EARTHQUAKES IN ONE PLACE AFTER ANOTHER.

1914 was the start of the last days the composite sign is all happening since then .
