Eating dead fetus in China

is it ethical to eat a dead fetus?

what are the nutrients that are found in a dead fetus that cant be found in any other "food"?

Re: Eating dead fetus in China

I think it is ethical to eat dead fetus. If you are hungry and there is nothing else available. If you will eat pigs, and cows, and goats, and chickens, then why not dogs, or cats, or dead fetuses? So long as you have not killed the fetus yourself, I don't see the problem. I suppose it would help if the parents gave us permission to eat it, but, we don't ask sheep permission to eat their lambs, do we?

In many cultures, people eat their afterbirth/placenta. It's full of protein, apparently. I imagine a dead fetus would be similiar.

Why did you title this post "eating dead fetus in China"?

Re: Eating dead fetus in China

Then there is the story of the plane crash in the high mountains of China, they were there for over three months waiting to be found, no food, burning everything to keep warm, melting snow for water, they were forced into cannibalism but only after two months did they resort to eating some of the dead that were frozen outside the plane.

When most people are asked that even in dire straights such as these if they could do such a thing...they say no...there is just no way they could eat chinese for 30 days in a row...

That is a true story-- but it was in South America.

Yes I remember the incident and read the book when it came out...never did see the movie, I'm so often disapointed after reading books I like....

Also visited Donner Pass, quite the story there when you investigate all of it.

Whenever I drive I-80 on my cross-country trips, I always make sure to have some chips or sandwiches in the car when going over Donner: it would be bad juju to go over the Pass without food on hand!

I agree with Sam; this:

is hilarious.

As for the morality issue, I don't see anything that could remotely be an issue, unless the fetus in question was intentionally killed or possibly stolen. If the act did not hurt anyone, I don't feel there is a moral compromise.

However, if that chef (assuming this story were legit) were to serve the fetus up to unsuspecting customers, advertised as "Spicy Chicken" or the like, that would be, in my opinion, morally questionable.

Boy, talk about moving the line....

Now I eat fish, cheese, eggs etc...so I am clearly not a vegetarian.

I gave up most meats due to factory farms and could head full blown veggie with what is going on in fisheries and egg factories...time will tell.

But as a former carnivore and hunter...I could never and still can't fathom where the line is between cow, pig, chicken, duck, goose, deer, possum, nutria, dog, cat, guinea pig etc....

But I believe there are long term health issues in regards to cannibalism (we learned of prions and mad cow) and do have that line as quite ooogy. Now obviously survival would be a different story.

But like the guy who had the famous intelligent pig that learned over 60 words and could perform on cue....when visited by a tourist who had heard about the pig...the farmer called him, and the pig came running around the corner on three legs...the guest said, "Oh my, did he have some sort of accident?"

"Heck" said the farmer, "A pig that smart, you don't eat all at once!"

Oh yes, this is a very important point that didn't cross my mind at the time of my post. Good call. Indeed, regular fetus consumption would be ill-advised--I suspect as much by vegan advocates as by the Surgeon General.

And *small shudders* at the pig story from this unconventional vegetarian... :-)

Now isn't that a funny line?

-eating chinese....hillarious.

-eating a portion of a pig...shudders*

it does bother even conventional carnivores for some reason....

When I first started reducing hoof and fowl consumption I only ate what got in front of my gun, or if I knew its name, or what it ate.... that drove your typical hire an assassin to put it on styrofoam and wrap it in plastic carnivore crazy....

I thought and still think that when you take part in the raising, or at least the slaughter, cleaning, skinning, dismemberment, of your meal, it is much better for you spiritually than omitting that connection to your nutrition.
