This is the one I carry on my keychain--

Re: Favorite Bible Quotes

This one is not from the Bible, but I hope you won't mind if I post it here. We could also start another thread like that in the Eastern Religions section called Daily Wisdom Sayings.

Quote:
The fundamental goodness of human nature, like the mystery of the Trinity, Grace, and the Incarnation, is an essential element of Christian faith. This basic core of goodness is capable of unlimited development; indeed, of becoming transformed into Christ and deified. (from Open Mind Open Heart by Thomas Keating, a Cistercian priest, monk, and abbot)

Re: Favorite Bible Quotes

Would have to be this one of course if I had to pick one.

Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.(KJV)

But Im not going to pick just one so here is another one I like.

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: itis the gift of God(KJV)

Re: Favorite Bible Quotes

This is not my favorite verse (for I have none, the whole thing is beautiful) but it is an unconventional and interesting pick. 2 Samuel 20:21 That is not the case! But a man of the hill country of Ephraim, called Sheba son of Bichri, has lifted up his hand against King David; give him up alone, and I will withdraw from the city." The woman said to Joab, "His head shall be thrown over the wall to you." 22 Then the woman went to all the people with her wise plan. And they cut off the head of Sheba son of Bichri, and threw it out to Joab. So he blew the trumpet, and they dispersed from the city, and all went to their homes, while Joab returned to Jerusalem to the king.

There are people who like to talk about following God and living according to wisdom, and then there are people of action. Regardless of this woman's personal spirituality, the wise woman's actions demonstrated the difference well enough for me.

Re: Favorite Bible Quotes

I went to a Christian school, and in 6th grade my science teacher drove this verse into our heads and i absolutely love it: 1Tim 4:12 "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life in love, in faith and in purity." <~~~~ I'm actually going to set that as my signature right now!
While typing this I found another one! 1Tim 4:8 "For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come."

Joh 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: :28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. :29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out ofmy Father's hand. :30 I and my Father are one.

More than one but they all go together .

Re: Favorite Bible Quotes

And as for you, O Daniel, make secret the words and seal up the book, until the time of [the] end. Many will rove about, and the [true] knowledge will become abundant.........Daniel 12;4 yes we are now living in the time of the end, not the end of the earth as a globe , but the end of mankind ruling himself independent of God ,for me ,i find that the times we are now living in are very thrilling times indeed because true knowledge is indeed becoming abundant ...............But you, Daniel, close up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge." NIV......But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased...KJV yes, knowledge about the bible is increased in these last days

Ok lets see if we can clear this up some by looking at some more scriptures.

Joh 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God. :3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. :4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.(KJV)

Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. :15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. :16 And of his fullness have all we received, and grace for grace. :17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. (KJV)

So to sum it all up we see Jesus is the Word.

Re: Favorite Bible Quotes

John 1:1 certainly is a list-topper for me as well. Thank you for sharing that one Dor, as well as the related quotes.

I'd like to gently remind that I'd prefer we don't start to debate the quotes in this thread. Of course, there's no rule against starting a new thread if something of interest comes up.

Was not trying to start a debate at all sorry if it seemed that way.
