Re: Favorite Song Lyrics
Namaste all,
Staind, Fray:
I know that it never goes away
All I feel, everything I'm not today
So I try and I try to make everything right
I don't feel like I'm doing it, it affects me
You wouldn't listen even if I told you
Who the f**k am I to say?
You're too busy with the lies they sold you
Another cure to fix your day
Open wide for all the **** they feed you
While the TV defecates
And blindly walk wherever they lead you
While the edges slowly fray
I know that everything can change
What I need is to open up again
And never will I look back in vain
'Cause today's not the past,
I don't even need to relieve it
You wouldn't listen even if I told you
Who the f**k am I to say?
You're too busy with the lies they sold you
Another cure to fix your day
Open wide for all the **** they feed you
While the TV defecates
And blindly walk wherever they lead you
While the edges slowly fray
Are you satisfied?
I've given it all I can
And are you pacified
Or do you want more from me?
You wouldn't listen even if I told you
Who the f**k am I to say?
You're too busy with the lies they sold you
Another cure to fix your day
Open wide for all the **** they feed you
While the TV defecates
And blindly walk wherever they lead you
While the edges slowly fray
I've learned that this life's not just a game
Just a line between the pleasures and the pain
You wouldn't listen even if I told you
Who the f**k am I to say?
You're too busy with the lies they sold you
Another cure to fix your day
Open wide for all the sh*t they feed you
While the TV defecates
And blindly walk wherever they lead you
While the edges slowly fray

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics
I saw those Kansas lyrics when I was looking up the others, and thought they were awesome. I am a pretty big Kansas fan, but I don't remember hearing that one. I am going to have to find that audio.
I have missed two Saturdays in a row now, I guess. So when I get to posting again, watch out!

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics
Favorite lyrics, rather than favorite songs?
Interesting question. If you consider the lyrics of the song as poetry only, I think the hands down winner (for lifetime achievement) is Paul Simon.
It's easy to read his lyrics as poetry, the scansion is near perfect, the imagery spectacular.

Scott

Isn't that the same thing? The lyrics are what make the song....
example: no not your favourite colour! Whats your favourite shade...
Is there that much difference?

Music is one thing. Lyrics are another thing. The two together tightly wedded is a third thing altogether.
Think of the song by Sheryl Crow about sitting in a bar thinking and talking about the "Meaning of Life".
Those lyrics were adapted from a poem by a poet who had never written lyrics for a song at all. He also received WAY more money for being the lyricist for that song than he ever did for writing the poetry in the first place.
That's why I made the distinction.
Regards,
Scott

Um, 17th Angel, the song title for the Rolling Stones is Paint It Black, not Painted Black (although I can understand how people can make the mistake.)
Also, the Eagles didn't do Dust in the Wind (I'm not questioning your memory here, but I'm not familiar with any rendition by them or any song with that title done by anyone other than Kansas or Guns 'n Roses.)

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics
This has always been one of my favorite songs.
IN MY LIFE
(Lennon/McCartney)
There are places I remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all
But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more

I know Kansas did Dust in the wind to begin with but I have a cover of it by the Eagles :\
and painted black, paint it black... Tomatoe, tamato..
Thank you however, for your vigilant observations...

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics
I've just been through the Eagles' discography: Eagles Discography , I can't find a recording of "Dust in the Wind".
But it's definitely a good song. Reminds me a lot of the earlier "Windflowers", and "Advance Guards" by Seals and Crofts.

Scott

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics
Blackbird (For Mom)
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free.
Blackbird fly Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.
Blackbird fly Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics
Are you with me Doctor Wu
Are you really just a shadow of a man that I once knew
He was crazy, he was shy
But you're an ordinary guy
Has she finally got to you
Can you hear me doctor...

Re: Favorite Song Lyrics
Message in a bottle (the better version... By Machine Head...)
Just a castaway, an island lost at sea.
Another lonley day, theres no one here but me...
More loneliness, than any man could bare.
Rescue me before I fall into despair.....
I'll send an SOS to the world, I'll send an SOS to the world.
I hope that someone gets my, I hope that someone gets my, Message in the bottle yeah....
Message in the bottle, yeaaaah....
*drums go freaking crazy and guitars go heavy....*
A year has been since I wrote my note!
But I should have known this right from the start!
Only hope can keep us together, yeah.
Love can mend your life, but love can break your heart.
I'll send an SOS to the world, I'll send an SOS to the world.
I hope that someone gets my, I hope that someone gets my, message in the bottle yeah..
Message in the bottle yeah.
*insert primal screams*
I'm sending out an SOS,
I'm sending out an SOS,
I'm sending out an SOS,
I'm sending out an SOS,
I'm sending out an SOS,
I'm sending out an SOS........

I think you'll find that is because the Eagles did not record "Dust in the Wind." That would be Kansas, music and lyrics by Kerry Livgren (who played the acoustic guitar) and sung by Steve Walsh. "Carry On Wayward Son" is the anthem of my youth.
