Gawain and the Greene Knight
I found a delightful essay here:

Who the author is I have no idea, nor can I vouch for its veracity, but it seems interesting ... I'll leave it to you.

Re: Gawain and the Greene Knight
Kindest Regards, Thomas!
Thank you for that.
I'm afraid my familiarity with the Arthurian legends is very limited. The Green Knight, if I read the same story in modern English sometime in the last couple of years, is an interesting character. Linking him to the wild man seems correct.
Gwain and Santa Claus.
Who'da thunkit?

Indeed!
We were given an original Victorian Christmas card a few years ago, and the 'Father Christmas' face on the cover was framed in a laurel of seeds, twigs, leaves, etc ... exactly the same as the 'olde English' Green Man.

the 'essay' comes from a personal letter sent to me by Jamie Chadwick, an old friend who currently lives in South West London -- thus the conversational tone of "Did I Ever Tell You About Sir Bertram?" is not an artifice -- it has been transcribed as originally written
our correspondence, conducted over many years, was invariable lengthy and covered diverse themes -- none of it was intended for publication or further dissemination, but i couldn't resist sharing this particular adventure, which draws on two of Jamie's many interests, old European languages and hagiography

It is a great pleasure to hear from you once again, although quite sad to hear of the loss of your friend. Thank you very much for the reference, I took the liberty of bookmarking the page of Mr. Chadwick's writings and plan to give them a good read. As ever you are more than welcome to spend a little time here if you would like, the pleasure of your company is always appreciated.
