It is all relative and a matter of perspective. I'm not saying these are peaceful times, nor denying that you are correct in saying that they aren't peaceful.

And I obviously have bias issues in that the author is stating something that validates I've believed for years...that we've got it good...right now.

In relation to the abhorent practices and violence of the past...we are more peaceful, and less violent today, generally. ie the graph is moving in the right direction. Are there hills and valleys, yes...are there places where violence erupts, yes.

How is this for a graphic example. Take the overall skin tone of a population of 30 year olds...sure they fight and fuss about this little dry spot or this blackhead, or the beginnings of a wrinkle. If you focus on any one area of their face you may find issues. And if you focus on any one person you may find major issues...but overall...skin issues are not the same as they were when they were teens and they and most of their friends faces were populated with little volcanoes of puss.

Relatively, it is more peaceful today....and my skin cleared up too.

To focus on those small areas and "find issues" Is good if you ask me, you can then attempt to resolve and fix these issues. Out of sight, out of mind.. Seems a bad way.. But, yeah agree it is less violent these days.

One other thing, you say something you have believed for years? Obviously speaking of christianity right... But, doesn't it say that things will get worse just before the coming of christ? Maybe that is something for another day/thread....

Nope, not speaking of Christianity in this regard. Speaking to the fact that I believe the world is a better place, people are getting nicer, that generally we are good if just given the chance. I believe that the instantaneous and all prevelant global news is the cause of our consternation that the world is worse. We'd never hear about a war half a globe away every evening, or an abduction 200 miles away...today we get blasted with garbage for minutes, hours days, months on end of the injustice around the world and it makes us think that it is commonplace and increasing...when in truth the reporting of it is increasing and commonplace.

I've hitched for untold thousands of miles (litterally tens of thousands), got picked up by hundreds of people in my lifetime...and I have an incredible faith in the goodness of my fellow man...

I find it nice, that you are able to have this faith and trust in humans... I couldn't bring myself to that... But, nice to see someone has.
