Do I hear the double standard bell ringing?
Do you like cheese? Gotta "freshen" cows so they keep giving milk. Gotta do something with all the bull calves.

To be honest I don't like cheese very much and rarely eat it. I see what you are saying and I agree with you. I just find the animal issue interesting in that each society seems to find it perfectly ok to do it to the animals they want to eat, while protesting about the animals others want to eat. I don't get it.

I love animals and wish everyone would stop killing them but I don't see anyone flying to the UK to protest about the way we treat and kill animals (I also noted the protestors in the video were American so would be interested to hear what protests they make about animals killed in the US).

But Sally, c'mon...a lovely little camembert? Pretzels? Bagels begging for cheese, hmmm?

I drank a flat sh*tload of milk when I was a kid. Can't stand the stuff now except for a wee squeeze of half and half in my morning cup. When I was twelve my family and I lived in Nairobi. We had to buy these fifty pound sacks of powdered milk. After a while you can't even tell anymore you're so deprived! My dad liked the chunks. You know, you can never mix that powdered stuff all the way down. My dad wanted his with the chunks.

Civilization was built by killin' animals and choppin' down trees. Just ask Ted Nugent.

Re: Japan? WTF?!

oh milk with lumps - yummy.

The issue isn't about killing or not, it is about what we think is right or wrong to kill for food. Why is ok to kill a cow or boil a lobster alive but kill a dolphin and people fly around the world to protest? I don't get it, it is all life (or death as the case may be).

Cows are dumb. Lobsters are really dumb. Dolphins are like us.
I'm not saying whether that should or shouldn't make a difference to how people view it, but it does.

Seem like you are proposing an IQ test to determine whether humans should be harvested and consumed or not? Can you imagine all the mid term elections we'd have to accomplish after the results are in?

Would rather depend on how one determined 'dumb', Bob. What you are doing is comparing different species, all of which have different abilities.

As it happens, Dolphins are not as intelligent as you think.

It's partly an urban myth that they are.

Re: Japan? WTF?!

So what about cats and dogs, where do they fit on the scale of what is ok to kill and eat? Of course we in the west find this repulsive but it is normal food in the Far East. IN the UK we are horse lovers, in France horse meat is served in most restaraunts. Where do we draw the line and who decides where the line is?

Re: Japan? WTF?!

as a meat eater I obviously think its ok to kill animals for meat. my earlier point was that the japanese are killing whales and other marine creatures NOT for meat (as they have a surplus) but mainly because we (in the west) think that they should not.
