liberation by hearing on the after death plane

Am intrigued to read the Bardo Thodol, the Tibetan Book Of The Dead. However there are many many translations and commentaries on it. Anyone read? Any recomendations which is best?

I'm hoping this place hasn't completly ground to a halt, I like the idea of it, having always been interested in the full spread of religion/s..

Namaste NEN,

thank you for the post.

I have several transliterations of this text. The one that i prefer is the transliteration by Robert Thurman as he is a practiconer and a well regarded transliterator of Tibetan texts.

metta,

Hi,

In the summer edition of Tricycle there was a review of The Tibetan Book of the Dead by Gyurme Dorje, trans.; Graham Coleman, and Thupten Jinpa, Eds.

For what you may think it's worth, the review concluded by saying "...this edition will no doubt quickly establish itself as the new definitive Western standard."

This is offered on the basis that I have read none of them!

If you are interested in the full spread of religions, then may i suggest at least a brief glance through the egyptian book of the dead – you may find many interesting parallels as i did. In fact there are many parallels in most religions if not all, e.g. A judgement faze and intermediate realms as are in both books of the dead.

I have a copy of the tibetan book of the dead, but i am bad because i don't think it matters what version one has. your heart will know that which is true and that which is false or you will know nothing.

Just my humble opinion – i hope not to have caused offence.
