St Mary's pupils dressed up to raise money for the Bushfire Appeal yesterday.


HIS sister's town has been reduced to “acres of ash” and tonight Gary Russell-Sharam will speak of the devastation the Victorian bushfires have caused his family.
“It's not just scorched, there are acres of ash. There is no grass and no dirt,” Mr Russell-Sharam said.
He will speak at the multi-faith prayer service tonight, organised by the Baha'i community.
“I will talk to everyone about what my relatives did to escape the fire and ask people to say a prayer for them and contribute funds to the cause.”
Organiser Sue Johnson urged Warwick residents of all faiths to brave the weather and join in the prayers.
“We will pray for the people in the North Queensland floods and those in the Victorian bushfires,” Mrs Johnson said.
“The firemen will also be prayed for.”
Mrs Johnson said the nature of the human spirit had emerged amid the crises.
“The donated materials give people shelter, warmth and food but this will give everyone spiritual sustenance.”
Prayers for our friends • The multi-faith service in Leslie Park begins at 7pm
• The one-hour service will include singing, readings and prayers led by members of different faiths in the Rose City
• Participants will pray for fire and flood victims
• Bring a chair, a torch and an umbrella
