Name change?

I've been considering for a while changing the name of CR, and moving to a completely new domain.

The reason being, that "comparative-religion.com" is too weak a domain name to build a long-term site on, especially as "comparativereligion.com" is not a religious tolerance site, but a Christian site that dismisses other religions.

Whilst I see nothing wrong with a site expressing specific religious values, I do not at all like the way that these two sites could easily be mistaken for one another on the basis of the domain name.

A domain name serves as the basis for a site's identity - it is the source of site branding. For a strong long-term future I believe CR needs a strong, unique, and completely unambiguous branding. A new domain would be the focus of that.

The site design and layout would not be affected - other than changing the site title, of course. Everything would look the same, run the same, and the same people would be here.

Simply a name change and some slight presentation changes. And root this place more on a "religious tolerance" and "interfaith forum" platform.

I'll need to plan this properly, though, as I'd already started branding comparative-religion.com as CR. Still, better later than never.

Oh - and it will give me an ideal opportunity to fix various issues with the forum as well.

I see what you mean. I didn't know about the other site. Strange tool, the net !

After a quick check of the other site, I could see there is no dialogue involved and no chance to find more about the articles, than to e-mail directly to Valea.
CR is for me, an interfaith dialogue forum.

Maybe you can launch a competition between the members to find a name ? The final decision is yours, of course. The purpose of the competition should be only to help you to find the best idea.

Actually, I already have a name and domain registered.

It's more a prior warning - and whether there is anything particular that demands change around here while I'm at it.

Also, what should never be changed.

General discussions about the future of CR, which is not in doubt - and neither is it's direction - as much as whether there are certain aspects that should be much more focussed upon (not least, my getting more material up!).

I also think I should set up a blog on the site for religion news and link it up with the forums. Been meaning to for a while, but the current serer environment is not good for it.

I was going to object until you said there was a site with a similar name, because its such a great site and has a foundation and the name says it all. But, yeah, that other site sucks. I won't sugar-coat it. And a religious blog would be great.

Heh. Yeah, I had to enlarge the cross before it was visible. She (I'm assuming it was a she) had to hide it in her hand, but that dynamic doesn't jibe well with avatar making. I should probably try to fix it so it makes more sense.
