Re: News banning and reputation systems
Yeah I've been to a couple boards that have rep and nobody takes it seriously there.

Re: News banning and reputation systems
Well as one who questions the sufficiency of secularism to sustain a free society and rather insists on the importance of grace to collectively sustain it, my bad reputation is assured.
Hmmm....yet Simone Weil had a bad reputation:
From the Director of Career Placement, Ecole Normale Supérieure
Quote:

"We shall send the Red Virgin as far away as possible so that we shall never hear of her again"
|
The Police Commissioner of Le Puy to the Prefect in a 1932 report to the Prefect:
Quote:
|
In the interest of public security it would be advisable that this person be distanced from Le Puy, where she has never ceased to preach revolt.
|
Now I wonder if my reputation is bad enough.

Reputation is obviously a mixed blessing.

Gotta luv Mark Twain. Of course, he was also famous for saying his real politics were a private matter, that the politics he displayed in public were those of the moment and present company...

Well, it's not the first time in a forum where I thought some guy was a $%*&(*&(*^*%&%*&, and I can just imagine myself (with a devious grin) giving someone a bad rep because there was an opportunity to hit him with something. I haven't felt that way with the people here, but in others, sometimes I really feel like doing ^*(&%*^* to them.
I'm not a nasty person, but I'm not all pure and holy either.
But to be realistic, it's not really that person's fault. It's bad moderators.
I like CR/Interfaith because Brian has done such a good job keeping it peaceful. But I understand that it's a hard job and the Reputation system might make it a little easier. I don't think I'd personally have to use it. If I do use it, it'd be to give people positive rep.
The danger of bad rep's would be that Brian would be handing to us the responsibility to moderate between ourselves, and we wouldn't all make good moderators. It could be a recipe for anarchy and disorder! ..... and some private bickering between members.
But anyway, I'd much rather be told off by Brian for misbehaviour. It always helps when you know there's one single person running the house. Brian getting personally involved is a good thing.

Re: News banning and reputation systems
By the way, has anyone started giving any rep's yet, or are we all ignoring it because it's new?

It's more intended as a member feedback loop - we can't allow everyone to moderate each other, but this does allow members to give some form of feedback not simply on each other, but also the moderators as well.

Well if its only going to end up with "peeps" in a self-congratulatory huddle it will be revealing. I used it twice I think. Once to give Dog a thumbs down and once to give Grey a thumbs up. Will be the only two times I use it.
