Posting Problems
Hi,
Has this ever happened to anyone else, and if so, can you tell me where I am making my mistakes? Sometimes I will post a reply, thinking I am replying to the latest comment. I think I have searched the thread thoroughly, even switching my display options back and forth. But sometimes, after I have already posted, I find I have missed half the conversation and posted out-of-order and so my reply is either irrelative by then, or it just looks silly, or both.
I haven't participated in many forums, so perhaps I need some tips? Anyone? Help?
I joined the forum to learn and contribute--not to mess things up.
InPeace,
InLove

Re: Posting Problems
Is it possible you did not go to the last page of the thread?

Re: Posting Problems
Underneath each topic, if it extends to multiple pages then you may see a line of numbers corresponding with the number of pages in the topic being discussed, which allows for easy movement between the pages.
The quick reply box will appear beneath every page on a thread, regardless as to whether that page is near the beginning or end of a topic.
Hope that helps - but please do feel free to raise any more questions you may have.

Re: Posting Problems
Thank you Dauer and I,Brian,
Yes, I need to keep an eye on how many pages are there.
I will have to look for the numbers you are talking about, I.
I surely appreciate whatever patience has been afforded me.
LOL--looking forward to either making many more mistakes, or not, or both .

Re: Posting Problems
No worries - sometimes these boards can be a little complicated to get used to.

Re: Posting Problems
Hello again--more posting questions ?
I notice that sometimes when I try to post a reply citing a quote, the quote does not show up in the little quote box, and so I am wondering why?
Also, how do I post multiple quotes from different people inside one reply (and have them show up in the little boxes?) What if I do not need to quote the entire message, but just a part of it (taking care to retain the original contextual intent, of course)?
Thanks in advance for any help?
InPeace,
InLove

Re: Posting Problems
No problem.
The key to using quotes is using the forums own "bbcode" - ie, little tags you can add to change the format of text posted.
To quote a user, you can manually add the following around the section you wish to quote:
[ quote ]
Section to quote
[ /quote ]
DON'T include the spaces, though - I added the space inside the brackets to prevent the code hiding the example.
If you want to show the name of who you are quoting, you can do as follows:
[ quote=name ]
Section to quote
[ /quote ]
Hope that will help.
If you try it, and you see the brackets, it means that one or more brackets is wrong.

Re: Posting Problems
Thank you. This seems like as good a place to try it as any. LOL--if it doesn't work here, then I haven't accidentally offended anyone. So here goes:

Posting now to see if it worked.
(Edit: It did, indeed. Thanks! Your help is much appreciated.)

Re: Posting Problems
Okay--can anyone tell me why my posts are stretching way out horizontally so that one has to scroll sideways and back and forth to read them? I keep trying to fix this--thinking it is just the way I am seeing it--but are others seeing it this way too? (Sometimes other people's post look this way to me also, but not always.) Also, on my signature, the font and size seems to have changed all by itself?
I'll bet I really should know the answer to this, and I will likely feel silly when I get the answer. But it is rather driving me nuts....
LOL--this post will probably not look that way--kind of like when one goes to the doctor to find out about something, but the problem will not show itself during the visit?
Help?
InPeace,
InLove
(Editing)Yup--this one doesn't look that way--but there are a couple on--ummm--the Revelation thread in the Christian room and several other places that look funny to me--I wish I knew why. However, see how Maimonides' quote is small? I didn't do that--at least not on purpose. Wonder what happened? Any ideas?

Re: Posting Problems
I have not had any trouble reading your posts--format of content and sig both look OK on my screen.

Re: Posting Problems
Indeed, it sounds like potential formating issues with a post - definitely something I need to look at, and see if site staff can deal with issues when seen. Sofly softly, though, as editing other people's posts can be a delicate business, and I shouldn't want reformating of posts to appear as site censorship.

Re: Posting Problems
Dear I,
Okay, Brian, too, ,
Oh, I sure do understand how troubled the editing process is! I do it every day, albeit it not on The Internet.
Thanks--I keep thinking my questions are dumb, and you keep telling me they are not.
I don't know if this will be helpful to you, but I noticed that the problems I have been describing to you only happen when the thread is a long one.
See Ya, and Thanks--
InPeace,
InLove

Re: Posting Problems
Hello, Brian and Luna--
I have been meaning to thank you. I was relieved to find out that the posts were not looking wierd from your end, lunamoth. Thank you--that helps.
Things seem to have cleared up from my end, as well. I would be interested in knowing, Brian, if you did anything from where you are, or did these problems fix themselves on my computer?
I noticed that the problems only seem to happen on long threads.
Thanks.
InPeace,
InLove

Re: Posting Problems
I'm afraid I didn't do anything. I guess we'll just blame the gremlins.
