Hence also the rise of socialism as well, which helped the working classes very much and organised them.
And hence, the capitalists, alarmed at the new developments , were forced to take action, which resulted in better wages and employee treatment.

Actualy thats a very interesting area of investigation, I wonder to what degree sex/repression had any influence in the Bolshevik revolution. Definitely worth investigation. Will post on it when I find something.

Re: Sex and Extremism
Just for the sake of information. Both the russians and the french are known for their sexual freedom during the revolutionary times.

First results show that Tzarist Russia used Christian Russian Orthodoxy in its propoganda war against the Bolsheviks. Citing the immorality of sexuality in post-revolution France, which they labled paganistic, demonic, satanistic and sexual. Seems the Orthodoxy under the Tzars rigourously condemned and ostracised any behaviour outside of the chaste official policy of the church, which was more or less identical to the 'right' fundamentalists of today. As a lot of the inspiration for the Bolshevik revolution was drawn from the French and pamphlets of the time cited French Freedoms it is not disengenius to suppose the young revolutionaries were also aware of the sexual freedoms of France. I will keep delving see if I can find any documented policy from the Bolsheviks.

Wouldn't that then suggest that the link to the violence is envy/jealousy, rather than sexual repression?

Re: Sex and Extremism
As an aside, I wonder to what degree alcohol consumption has played a part in sexual liberation from imposed taboo's down the ages. Not for individuals, that much is obvious, but for mass movements down the ages. Perhaps the answer to dealing with a stubborn intransigent Iran is not to bomb it with high explosives but to drop cases of Whisky!! And inflatable linda lovelace's
Roll up roll up....selling whisky futures!! Selling latex futures!!

Re: Sex and Extremism
most of our teenage yrs involve trying to get drunk and trying to find a boyfriend or girlfriend to love/have sex with... u take this out of the equation then what do young ppl do instead?
we teach men that being good in bed and being hard and tough is what makes a man. If you're not gonna let him be a stud then he'll fight instead...
we teach women that they should look pretty and be agreeable... if you don't let them tart themselves up they despise women who do...
of course this is simplistic, but it's not rocket science, surely..?
if u supress a person's natural sexuality then u make them neurotic- even worse than this, u also make them dislike themselves, as they cannot help but become aroused, and then kick themselves for being so weak... sublimation of natural desires into intense religiosity happens in most religions, and it's a shame that our Gods are such prudes...

On the other hand, maybe we should not work so hard to supress the opium flow from Afghanistan. And cannabis never hurt anyone much, despite inflammatory propaganda to the contrary. Reefer Madness? Do you know any sexually repressed, fundamentalist Rastas? I suppose anything is possible, though.

Well, if you are saying that Voltaire and Rousseau, who had many mistresses, are jealous and envious, then I must say that we need more such characters.

Re: Sex and Extremism
u poor guys must have been short changed in the love stakes then, to think fighting is better...
yes, fighting is great- the power u feel is immense, smashing in the skull of ur opponent, laying them to waste, but then there is the next day to deal with, and unless u can convince urself that fighting was the only option, which lets face it, it hardly ever is, what do u do then? feel a little guilty? feel a little ashamed that u have been so barbaric? no, of course not... instead, u revel in it, and that revelling makes it all the more likely that u will fight again, and so on it goes...
the first thing to learn about fighting, I was told, was how to run away...
I am quite a good kickboxer, and spend a few hours a week practising, but as an adult I would not dream of using my skills for any other reason than real self protection... I am aware of what I am capable of, and this awareness prevents me from becoming involved in disputes which I know will lead to fighting or which I know that I can win by fighting...
after all, how often does that little ego get in the way? He can't say that about me, I'll punch him in the nose, that will make me feel better... so childish, innit?
much better to save ur fight for when it is a truely noble endeavour or a last resort... btw, it feels so much better then!
but no doubt u know that already...

You seriously kickbox??? We should spar sometime...
Fighting is great and noble... No matter what... You are defending your honour... And no it isn't childish either... :/ You're childish!! you poop mouth!!! SO NAH!
I only fight when it is a worthy fight... I wouldn't lay into some spacker.... Well.... If I am cool under the collar and not being instigated.. ;/ Infact the less chance I have to win the more chance I will fight lol. I think it is a thing to proove oneself to one..... It isn't also, going out and looking for one... I never look for fights... I don't think I do anyway.... But, can't back down.... I think for a female, it maybe easier to back down or run away as you put it... I'd rather get my face dented into the ground then run away I would be so ashamed.
