Re: Tell me about your favorite historical/religious.political book

I just started reading The Greening of America written in 1970 by Charles A. Reich. It's revolutionary, and I love all 12 pages that I've read so far.

Another great one that I read a few months back is Autobiography of a Blue-Eyed Devil by Inga Muscio. Confessions of an Economic Hitman by John Perkins is good too, although I've faltered and not finished it.

As far as spirituality is concerned (can we even mix spirituality and politics without becoming truly revolutionary--is this allowed?? ), I like Starhawk's Dreaming the Dark and also Barbara Marcianik's Bringers of the Dawn.

For an imagining of history, I like to go back to Riane Eisler's The Chalice and the Blade.

Peace,
Pathless

I think that we can only truly understand both religion and politics when we consider how they influence one another.

Hi,

Just finished The Compass of Zen by Zen Master Seung Sahn. An excellent book overall if you're interested in Buddhism, not just zen as it covers Theravada (but unfortunately he refers to it as Hinayana) and Mahayana generally as well. I think the book is based on talks which probably why it's a bit repetitive in places and his take on karma I would have to say I would need to remain sceptical of, but apart from that it is very good. Typically zen though: some great clarity and insight but cheek by jowl with passages of "WHAT??!!"
