The Secret
Hello/Peace.
The newest craze in the U.S. is the book called The Secret. It talks about the Law of Attraction. The book claims that our thoughts are energy and with our thoughts we create our reality.
Allegedly, the law of attraction does not diffrentiate with what we want, it is what our thoughts are focused on and the feelings that follow it. The more we think negative things accompanied by negative feelings (fear, sadness, scepticism, etc) the more we attract it to us, regardless of whether we trully want it or not. Also, this applies for the opposite: positive thoughts and feelings create our positive reality.
Did any one of you followers of the Abrahamic teachings read the book? What do you think about the law of attraction? Has anyone tried it? Does it go against the concepts of monotheism? The book claims that the law of attraction is found in all religions, including the Abrahamic faiths.

I think in a lot of ways it is a secular view or explanation of prayer.

This was explained quite well in what the bleep (physiologically true or not I cannot say). When we have an emotion like hate, anger, jealousy, love, lust, whatever...a corresponding neuropeptide is created, a drug, which feeds the feeling...and it is absorbed by receptors in our cells. The indication of the film was whichever receptor receives it, it has now become a receptor only for that drug/feeling...and it sends our another chemical impulse requesting to be fed...fueling our need for more of that feeling. The more anger or love or whatever we emote...the more drug produced the more receptors are modified, the more we need it.... Add to that mess that when cells divide they say...well we have x amount of this receptor and y amount of those...we gotta make more... It really explains how angry old men can be created, feeding that feeling over and over...or intolerant people...or even Dali Lamas and Mother Theresa's...the more they express love and forgiveness the more thier cells want love and forgiveness drug...
Now that is the physical thing...but the attraction thang...the more give the more you receive...of whatever...so if you are in a positive mode and looking for a new boat, or new relationship...well you are open to it...and yes..the universe provides....ask and it is given...nothing new here. Just like prayer...the question is...if G-d hears all...then what are you truly praying about most?

hmmm....law of attraction says if you think it goes against your religion...your right! And if you think it is perfectly aligned with your religion...your right!

Re: The Secret
This is as old as the hills ...
From the Emarold tablet of Hermes Trismegistus:
"Without lie, certain and most true:
What is below is is like what is above,
and what is above is like what is below,
to accomplish the miracle of the One thing."
Or as the Wise Ones say:
"You become what you think about"
Which is a maxim of every Personal Development programme today, I would have thought.
All magic is based on the Law of Complementarity ... the law on which all alternative therapies operate ...
Secret? It's everywhere ...

"What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done; there is nothing new under the sun" (Ecc 1:9).
Someone already told this "secret." It used to go by the code name "gnostism."

You might not believe me, but I think I was one of the first few people to hear of this thing. I remember watching a short commerical vid about it online in 2003 and thinking it had to do with some sort of 911 conspiracy. Then about a year and a half later (maybe shorter) I saw what it was really about and thought, "Wow, this is soooo stupid!" Then a couple of years later, it came out on the "Oprah" show and became a huge thing. Its stupid. Just a secular version of false Christanity - the whole "name it claim it" crap, mixed with gnostic hersey.
Dont tell me you believe this stuff?

It was distributed just shy of a year ago...hasn't been out quite so long as you remember. Didn't take long to hit Oprah.
Do I believe a postive attitude will change your outlook on life and has the potential to create a better life for you?? Well, duh. I think Napolean Hill, Helen Keller, Jesus, Anne Frank, Victor Frankl, all would agree...
What part of it do you object to and feel is false? It is still available to watch online... the book is in stores...so you can state specifics rather than generalizations...

That's why I said "you might not believe me." I'm telling you the truth, I new about this since the end of '03. I remember thinking "oh my gosh, this is probably going to change the world." I thought it had to do with some huge secret cover up or something.

I believe this is more proof to show how people hate Jesus. They'd rather believe this amazingly stupid stuff over repentance and trusting in Jesus. I'm in awe of the whole thing, honestly.

I cant remember where online I saw it? All I remember is that I saw a two part movie clip on "the secret." They advertised it as if it was going to change the world and that it was a secret that a lot of famous people in the past new. As for what I feel is false? I believe all of it is false. Its stupid to think that by you being positive, you can get the universe to be in line with your desires. That's crazy! The Lord God governs the universe and He's not a genie. He does what He desires, not what we want.

Re: The Secret
One of my family members gave me the video about 2 years ago. I watched the video and found it to contain some truth. Just recently a friend of mine bought me the book, and I could not believe it. I told this person that "I tried to show the video 2 years ago". Sheesh talk about not listening to me. Anyway, If you get the chance, watch the video it is pretty good. The only thing that disturbs me about it is that the speakers acted the same way. Almost like they were clones. (not to mean that they looked alike) Sort of like invasion of the body snatchers.

Yep, told u I was a curious sort. Anyway, I liked certain parts of it. Other
parts were just down right creepy to me. Not to discourage others from watching it and making thier evals of it though. Silas, watch it, you might like it. One speaker on it said something that rang true though, he said, " If a good person or a bad person jumps off a building they will both die". He was tring to express the universal truth of the physical state we are in. Anyway, check it out and maybe we can "blog" about it later.

Im glad you told me. I was going to look at it, but, I won't waste my time to look at it now.
Anyway,
I cant wait to see Transformers coming out in July. I saw the trailer, and it looks like its going to be pretty good. Especially when they attack that marine base in Qatar.
