Re: The Trinity, from the JW view.
I liked the cartoon too! But was being real about the stake question. Was it stauros when Jesus used that reference as well?
I also see a lot of recreations today are not hauling a cross, but one with a stake/pole/branch tied to the arm and wrist on both sides keeping one outstrethed and then when reaching the site being hoisted into place on a tree or another stake, creating the cross.
Sort of seems to fit both understandings.
I'm also contemplating our giving mee grief about various postings in other threads when I wonder what respect we give him in this thread or the 1914 thread which are by title for developing an understanding of his beliefs.
Seems we both tread on each others toes.
And it is often like kids, well he started it, well she has to stop first....
time for us all to rise above it rather than roll into the mud maybe....

Re: The Trinity, from the JW view.
Cross, stake..... does it -really- matter that much? I say he died on a helter skelter slide..... *places an helter skelter charm on his necklace*.... People seem to me to get wrapped up in such small things.... I'll go forward 50 years or so as soon as I have mastered time travel....
Any of you know what a guy called jesus taught?
Sorry man from past, we focused on other aspects than his teachings, I think it had something to do with Love or something though..... But I'll tell you this right now, he died on a cross.....
BILL! No brah! how many times! He died on a stake....
Nice. The endless 'struggle' continues....
What shall we debate next? What brand of sandle the brother wore?

Re: The Trinity, from the JW view.
Oh word, I am totally a beefcake.....
You see where I am coming from though? With people highlighting minor detail, this thread was started so Mee could explain his faith and his teachings, yet the endless nit picking prevails. Maybeh, if we all stopped demaning he believes like us, we will understand his ways and those questions in our sweet lil heads that baffle us may be explained......
Wouldn't dream of being blunt or ill mannered, but the topic does say.... From the JW view....
Meh ignore me, 2am or something need sleep... *crawls up wooden hill to land of pillows*

Confusion matters? No it doesn't.... Love however, that is -all- that matters... Again, in my humble opinion.

This is Christianity, not Confucianism.
And yes, love matters. (Don't know about Confucias, sorry.)

Twisting the word of God matters.
Jesus Christ died on the cross and rose from the dead ...through him we have eternal life.
Cults and murderers are out.

I mean non-repenting cults and murderers, I was thinking aboutthe KKK when I wrote that.

Sorry to pick on you, Dream, but your comment seems to echo what others are saying.
In the book "The Two Babylons" a point was made about a pagan god Tammuz. People were sacrificed to Tammuz, even back around Abraham's time. The letter "T" and its variants; "t", "+", swastika, celtic cross, etc, were in very ancient times associated with this pagan god and the human sacrifices done in his name.
There are those, Rev. Hislop (author of "The Two Babylons") among them, who think the idea of a cross was transposed onto the Roman stake at some point for certain reasons to help mollify a pagan audience into accepting a Christianity that was only recently legalized and still carried the stigma of Judaism.
But these are all academic arguments that have no bearing on salvation. As for accusations of lies...what is truth? What one wants to believe, what one is fed, or what actually happened? From where I sit, the choice is individual. But it is the results that matter.
Quote:

"In Babylonia, the month Tammuz was established in honor of the eponymous god Tammuz, who originated as an Akkadian shepherd-god, Dumuzid or Dumuzi, the consort of Ishtar and the parallel of the Syrian Adonis who was drawn into the Greek pantheon.

This link reproduces a great part of the chapter in Hislop’s book.
The Two Babylons - The Sign of the Cross - Alexander Hislop
I have no axe to grind here. I could care less who knocks who over the head. But Hislop is a very learned and studied scholar, and his work has been further amended after his death to include other archeological finds. In short, his is the only argument I have heard to this discussion that actually has “in the field” research instead of a lot of opinion masquerading as truth.
