To infinity! And beyond!!!!!!!

Someone, whom shall remain nameless () wanted me to start a thread about the 16th Century cathedral in Salamanca(Spain) Because if we look to the main archway we see this image....

http://www.strangeattractor.co.uk/fu...73a78fc8_o.jpg

My opinion is simply that it was sculpted at a very later date when they were renovating the building.. and that there is no mystery behind it, as some are attempting to sell this idea, as the spaceman was on the original building(which it was not.) Many other carvings were placed on there such as a demon licking an ice cream cone... So my personal question... (feel free to express any opinions by the way and references IF you believe that these are original.)

So my question is;

Why put such carvings on the church??

Thoughts?
Discuss.

I wish I could answer your (friend's) question, Alex, but I am still trying to figure out why indigenous South American indians made a solid gold amulet shaped like the space shuttle, or why a stegasaur decorates an abandoned monastery in Cambodia, or why a skinny lizard looking critter is carved on the Ishtar gate in Babylon, or why Nostradamus wrote about "pig-faced" men...
