Re: Turn the Other Cheek
Some see the world as it is and say "why".
I see the world as it could be and say "why not".
Too idealistic?

Nope, not too idealistic at all- just don't expect it to happen right away! Without people like you and Wil things would never change and, if we were lucky, we'd still be bashing each other over the head to get to the water hole... My problem isn't the idealism it's the seeming expectation that it should happen straight away.

We can make all the excuses that we want that turn the other cheek don't work. Truth is, war isn't working out so well either.

How many times should the US turn the other cheek? We did so in 1982, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1998, 2000 and decided in 2001 that enough is enough.
When someone bent on your demise gets stunned by a punch, you don't stop and call for peace. You keep on pounding until your nemisis can't get up. Because if you don't, he will keep coming at you until his goal is met. Then there will be peace, but it will be the peace of the dead.
You may think the US is a failure, but then you don't have to worry relatively speaking, about a car bomb going off in front of your house.
I agree peace is preferrabe, however I accept that sometimes one has to fight to obtain it.
I firmly believe in the symbolism of the Seal of the United States.

Prober look's upon the world as what it could be while saying "Why not?" And I see Prober as he is and answer "Because."

Not really, "why" is always a good tool... But to look deeper and then ask "why not" I can't see that as corny ;/ Awareness.

Namaste Q,
Believe me, I know where you are coming from and hear your plight. I've had plenty of military in my family and much concern for the man on the ground.
But our methods and reasoning is so flawed... As I indicated I would fully support justice for Osama and his clan. But we were not able to do that. What we did do was what was requested by conoco over a decade ago...get the Taliban out so they can finish the pipeline...that is Afghanistan.
But please label your years of US turning the other cheek, which of the 650,000 Iraqi civilian dead committed any crime against us during those years??? While I am not indicating we should be invading our good friends in Saudi Arabia...the place where we have bases, and oil treaties...truth is, their people have been behind the lions share of the incidents you mentioned.
I do not think the US is a failure, I think we fail in many ways... We have so much potential....we could do so much better with the resources and brain trust we have.
