Hi umm salamah, and welcome to CR.

One of the aspects of Arabic culture I find fascinating is the use of calligraphy to more decoratively write various names and phrases - not least for Allah.

Re: umm salamah in the buliding!

Welcome umm salamah !

I've thought about life's purpose quite a lot over the years. I believe that I'd have to agree with the author Stephen King on this one who said in a commencement address at Vassar a few years ago, "It's not what you know that's important in life, but what you pass on".

Oh, I am fascinated with the core rituals of the great religions, especially those performed during the annual pilgrimage to Mecca. It is my understanding that in the past that the circumambulation of the Ka'baa by pilgrims was in a clockwise pattern, until sometime in the past it was changed to counterclockwise. Do you know anything about the history of this and when and for what reason(s) it was changed ?

You may wish to start a separate thread to address this.

Thanks, and peace be with you, brother,

flow....

Thank you. I meant the picture. I knew it was Arabic but I didn't know what it says. I've seen Arabic writing but I don't know the language and can't read it. Like Brian, I've seen the caligraphy in pictures and I like it.

umm salamah:

Sorry for the gender blunder, but I tend to think of brothers and sisters as a kind of a unity anyway. Really good to have you here, and I'm looking forward to your answer to my question. As I said, I'm really fascinated with the various rituals of Islamic Pilgrimage to Mecca.

peace and harmony to you...

flow....
