It isn't a matter of new research but in becoming aware of an addditional dimension to our limited scope of reality. The only reason science doesn't yet appreciate intelligent design is because it primarily is based on the classic logic the Law of the Excluded Middle.

To really appreciate ID one must become aware of the Law of the Included Middle. Then ID becomes logical.

Here's a study from the current edition of the same journal that basically says that whites have a tendency to behave as if they are "walking on eggs" (my own summary) regarding race when brought into work an interaction project where they are partnered with a black person. It explores the tendency for whites to adapt a "color blindness" strategy in order to avoid being perceived as being racist. Often times this color-blindness strategy backfires. It's really rather interesting.

I think religion has a part to play in resolving racism. I think a big part of the problem has been that the US recently allowed legal slavery, which fostered a slave-owner psychology (among both blacks and whites). I think that is the biggest reason why the US in the last hundred years or so has been a breeding ground for cults. The greatest impact of slavery has been upon blacks, but the social fabric of the entire society has been damaged. Dehumanization has become a part of society, passing from parent to child. Similarly it has become a part of religious life, putting many into a holding patter of slave or master perspective of life. False religious leaders have thrived in our environment and have even been spreading their influence from here to other dehumanized societies. This is one way interfaith helps to fight racism by chipping away at the absolutist atmosphere of religious paradigms.


More opinion:
Lots of people expect to be taken care of, given a job, told what to do while others must have ownership. There is a hair trigger between the two states of mind, because they are part of the same mentality. The social affect of this mentality affects everyone -- not just the descendants of slaves. When any affected person begins to see that they really do have to look out for themselves spiritually and physically, the slave in them breaks out. The master in them dies. The same person realizes there is no such thing as a 'Good master', that they can neither be one nor have one. Similarly, parents realize they do not own their child, and the children realize early that they must grow up. There should be no ownership involved in family, business, religion or in government. With a new social mentality, racism becomes impossible as well.
