Re: US & Iran
Is this a signal of the countdown to war? :
The commander of US forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, Admiral William Fallon, is to retire from his post early. He cited the "embarrassing situation and public perception of differences between my views and administration policy" as the reason for retiring. (BBC News).
It seems, according to some commentators, that Fallon is highly critical of any attempt to start a war with Iran and that Bush is putting pressure on those in the military that are not supportive of his plans to quit.
The recent deliberately antagonistic ratcheting up of tension in Israel could also be a precursor. Israel's "Final Solution" for Gaza may conceal a wider agenda. Like the 136 billion barrels of known oil reserves and 41% of global gas reserves to be found in Iran. Will we see a lot of talk of Iranian sponsorship of the next round of killings in Israel? I have a horrible feeling about all this that I sincerely hope is paranoia.

Why do you think they chose a naval commander to head CENTCOM? Why would this particular senior officer resign in the middle of a presidential campaign? I can't see where the Bush administration would have any qualms about attacking Iran in the waning days of it's power. Why would they care? They've already destroyed the US economy for this misbegotten "war on terror." I don't know what would make anyone believe they aren't prepared to go all the way. Besides, once the economy is destroyed they can easily finish off the middle class and, to paraphrase Grover Norquist, "drown the government in the bath tub."

Re: US & Iran
Yup, these are scary times with a madman in control of the USA and only 9 months left to bring about his vision of armageddon.

Of course in 2007 Iran changed their policy in trading oil and stopped trading in US$.
Hmmm, would I be being paranoid too if I thought the recent anti Iranian rhetoric and change in trading currency go hand in hand?

Ratchet paranoia up three more notches or so, Tao:
Marjorie Cohn: Beware an Attack on Iran
Wait, wait--there's more! Screw it, don't worry about paranoia. The threat is real. War has been declared.
