'Use Harry Potter to spread Christian message'

The Church of England is publishing a guide advising youth workers how to use Harry Potter to spread the Christian message.

Days before the release of the seventh and final novel in the series, youth leaders are being told they could use the popularity of the Potter books and films as a "launch pad" for exploring Christian themes.

The guide - published by Church House Publishing - comes as fans gear up for the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on Saturday, marking the final chapter in an extraordinary publishing phenomenon.

Re: 'Use Harry Potter to spread Christian message'

There has been a whole program going around in the states for the past couple of years....churches passing on costumes and sets...older teens play acting the skits for the younger ones...

I heard such good results and discussion with them I was always chuckling when I'd hear this church or that claiming it to be detrimental...

I'm alway perturbed by authors who captialize the Christian market by drolling out these "Christian" themed books based on secular movies and TV shows. People will see "spiritual" applications in anything they read, and I suppose that's fine, but something just itches of profiteering when I see things like this in Christian bookstores:

Jack Bauer's Having a Bad Day: An Unauthorized Investigation of Faith in 24: Season 1

Now I might forgive something written on "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" because that is a Christian allegory anyway, but this just smacks of quick money and I think it disingenous and insulting to Harry Potter fans who see it as a story, nothing more.

I remember finding workbooks to go along with Mayberry RFD, and the Christian/moral implications of the TV show....would love to buy the series just to learn more about Otis (the drunk that checked himself into jail periodically) and what was that clan in the hills??

Chronicles...I loved how they had to go in the closet and close the door...that was great...

just a story...nothing more... hmmmm amazing what gets canonized sometimes isn't it!!
