Re: What do you live for? Whats your philosophy of life?

Why is it necessary to hypothesise a 'God' in order to live a full and satisfying life?

Yes... it may satisfy something within yourselves, but is that reason enough to claim that you only live for and through your 'Faith'?

Are you all saying therefore that is impossible for the Faithless to be essentially 'good' and live in accordance with a satisfying moral and ethical state that benefits others, and be altruistic.

What does a hypothesised 'God' have to do with it?
Why do some feel it necessary to have a FAITH in order to live a good and happy life with respect for others?

Does that FAITH hide some deep-seated fear?

(letters in quote inserted by lm for reply)

a) I don't think that it is true for everyone. My experience has lead me to know that it is true for me.

b) I would say that my faith exists for me.

c) no, if you are referring only to faith in God.

d) as you say, individual nature and nurture. even if one believes that the Spirit is a seed planted in each of us (as I do), one still needs to decide to nurture that seed.

Also, wouldn't you say that everyone has faith in something, even if that something is themselves. Or another angle, I don't understand how every mechanism on an airplane works, but I have faith in the people who build and maintain airplanes, or else I would never ride in one. Same for driving. Talk about faith! People you don't anything about are hurtling at you at 65, 70, 90 mph and pass by you within mere yards in the opposite direction. There are many examples of how we have blind trust in the operation of the world.

e) not hides, but confronts.

Namasté Lunamoth,

Just to add to what you're saying about airplanes, we embark on a plane that takes us thousands of miles in the air, yet when we take our seat on the plane, we haven't seen the pilot of that plane, nor do we question his or her credentials, but we willingly give our lives over to this person that we've never yet seen. Talk about faith!

Dear Blue

When one is stripped bare of everything and you stand in your nudity alone, one discovers that all that is left is GOD, but some people do not reach the climax of the beloved union with the divine, unless they go through this initiation.

But it is not essential to have faith or belief in GOD for GOD's will-to-good to work through you. Your soul knows why it is here and what it has come to do.

Blessings in abundance

Re: What do you live for? Whats your philosophy of life?

Dear Blue

The popular Catholic Pope John Paul II, contradicted the Bible on December 7, 2000 when he proclaimed "Heaven is open to all as long as they are good," even for "those who ignore Christ and his Church." The Bible clearly teaches only those who have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior will go to heaven and the Father. The December 8, Electronic Telegraph reported the Pope as saying that "Heaven is open to all as long as they are good." The Pope was also quoted as telling an audience that "all of the just on Earth, including those who ignore Christ and his Church" were "called upon to build the kingdom of God."

Christ calls the Kingdom of GOD the Kingdom of Love.

Love beyond measure

I admit I've not done a good job at doing all those things, but I'm glad to hear that someone else has! I'm glad somebody brought up this thread, too. (However if it were a 100 year old thread I'd feel like I was desecrating it -- so nobody post after 100 years OK? 100 years is the cut-off!!!! Get your own d**n thread!!!!)

Imagine somebody 100 years from now reading our thread with the assistance of an AI high-speed logic chip. What would they be able to mine from all of our collected discussions, spats, and phillibusters? What do we live for? The title of the thread is "What do you live for? What's your philosophy of life?"

At times its seemed I've lived only because dying would have brought too much sadness to my loved ones. Those are the depressing times! Other times it is because I am very proud. Also there are times when I am very happy or at least expect that happiness is just around the corner. Underneath it all is the fact that I am alive and trying to figure out why and what to do next. Isn't living better than dying?
