The first one mentioned was tedious but interesting (not any contradiction here, huh?) and the latter was stupid but hilarious. I go for Powers.

I wanna see 'Little Giants' It is a good family film I can slightly recall from when I was younger... Basically an american football version of mighty ducks... Can't seem to find it ;/

I'm guessing this is the interviews with the cast and crew? Matrix isn't my particular cup o' tea (boo, hiss, yeah I know...). Recently I did watch a lot of the commentary interviews in the Bourne series (Identity, Conspiracy, Ultimatum). Bought the "extended" version of the first movie and was disappointed, I am truly glad they didn't use that version as the primary. But a lot of the scene set-ups were pretty cool. They sure went through a lot of Mini Coopers and Trabants in the first two movies.

Watched the new King Kong last week, was kind of impressed. The effects have certainly come a long way, even if the acting left some to be desired (Jack Black? As the hero? c'mon...). Sure beats the first remake, which I have no intent to purchase. On the other hand I did buy a collector's edition of the original black and white movie a few months back, and I thoroughly enjoyed the commentary by the crew members still alive. They pointed out a lot of really cool back story about how they made the movie, which way back then was really ground-breaking as far as effects go.

BTW, have you seen the new X-files movie, and is it worth the price of a theater ticket?

illustration in comic books changed with an obscure title and the arrival of three artists; Rob Liefeld, Todd MacFarlane and Stephen Platt. the obscure title was Moon Knight #56 which is the first work of Stephen Platts. MacFarlane was assigned the failing Amazing Spiderman franchise and, literally, brought it back from the ash can.

i enjoy Jim Lee quite a bit, i find his drawing to be rather evocative and clean.

in any event, i'm keen to check out some of Millers artwork, lemme know what you know

Tonight.. Going to watch it, and will turn into evluation mode not just spectator mode... And I'll give ya my deep thoughts... Any other films anyone wants to get viewed to see if it's worth the money and effort to see it let me know lol.... So Juan watch this space.

I saw three movies while I was away on business, which is more than I'd seen since January. LOL

The new Batman one--
I thought it was better than the other batman ones. Heath Ledger was good and I wondered if being that character was a bit of a small contribution to his depression and suicide. Some actors really embrace their roles to an extent that is harmful if the character is psycho or something. At any rate, it was all pretty good. It wasn't earth shattering or anything for me, but I liked it. I'm not a comic reader and didn't grow up watching cartoons or TV, so I have virtually no knowledge of the characters outside the movie versions.

I thought it was an interesting commentary on society and the human mind, to be honest- particularly the difference between the sociopath (Joker) and the person who is just a crushed, screwed up person (Two-Face). I liked the scene where neither boatload of people would blow up the other ones- that was touching.

Second movie- Juno. I finally got to see this. It was cute. It was comedic in a normal life kind of way. I liked the statement it made for adoption, though it would be nice to tackle the real issue of adoption/abortion debates- which is that there just aren't enough families that are rich, unable to have kids, and able to hire a lawyer to adopt a baby. I appreciated the life-affirming message, but to be honest, it lacked the teeth that a socially changing film about abortion and adoption would have. It was the ideal world scenario of adoption... the guy and the girl love each other, he's supportive, parents are supportive, they magically find a rich person to adopt the baby. Yeah, the adoptive parents break up, but it all seems magically OK- the single adoptive mom will somehow get to keep the huge house and care for baby without struggle. It was sweet and cute and endearing, but not very realistic.

Third movie- Mama Mia! That was just plain fun. I hadn't seen the Broadway musical, and like many musicals, I found it cheesy and cutesy, but that is what they are there for.

My thought the whole time was if I lived at that hotel I never would leave for anything. Greece is gorgeous! Loved the scenery, characters, just a really fun and upbeat movie. People clapped in the theatre at various periods and seemed really into it. That was part of the fun of seeing it- I was suprised at how good everyone seemed to feel and it was all ages. Fun times.

the one that stands out the most in my mind as a comic book masterpiece is the batman:the dark knight returns. this one has one of the best takes on batman and his rogue gallery. the story is awesome as well as the artwork which were both done by frank miller. i suggest you read it asap. you won't regret it. a few other ones that also stand out are the current stories of 300 and sin city. both artwork and story done by him as well. i went ahead and looked up any other titles that were done by him and found this on wikipedia right here. just scroll all the way to the bottom to see a checklist of his works. very interesting stuff. enjoy.

i remember when this happened. particularly when jim lee, rob liefeld and todd mcfarlane joined marvel. the artwork at this time was so amazing. except robs artwork. i think his was just overrated. it was different, i'll give people that! but even i can draw better than him. jim lee's x-men is the best take i have ever seen and won't see ever again. nothing today compares to the way his artwork was back then. and speaking of jim lee. you might even want to check out all star batman and robin. artwork by jim lee and story by frank miller. two birds with one stone if you ask me.

todd mcfarlane is most famous for this. he wrote this and drew for it. most amazing spiderman stories. they should have based the movies on this. the books were more darker and violent. especially the villains (venom and lizard).

For uno,dos,.....Three...

I haven't been a hardcore fan of the X-files, and haven't seen much since I was just a kid, when the first few series were pretty sweet, but it started to lack something, not sure what, anyway... I feel that the tone and pace is kept within the second film, and if you are a follower of the TV shows/series.... Then I think you will find quite a few good connections to previous events. The two ex FBI agents, Dr Scully and Hermit Fox Moulder are reunited, when the FBI are on the case for a missing agent, they decide to swallow their pride and ask Scully to get moulder as they need his help, and they have doubts on their main source of aid for the case. Father Joesph Crissman, (Who happens to be Billy Connoly, there are quite a few interesting additions to this film, you also have Xzibit as Agent Drummy...) Anyway, father Joesph is a man which has shaded past, but seems to believe he has been granted vision from God.... Doing their normal thing Moulder "Wanting to believe." And Scully not so willing....

The film seems to feel very long... (it's actually about an hour 26mins or so.. DON'T QUOTE ME!!! ARGH!) And this is good, because it isn't a "oh hell shoot me this is never going to end..." It's more of a "Wow there feels like there is much going on and it just feels quite layered and deep." You have moments where there is even humour offered... Which I didn't expect, you have chases, thriller/mystery moments, you think is ABC for real? Yeah it is, it really is... No, Ah... Nah it's not I see.. Wait is it?... I think that is pretty cool film overall, but don't expect there to be any green men... Because you will be upset, Not being on the X-files scene... And if I had the money and was willing to pay to see it, then yes it is worth the trip... You will be entertained, even if you are not an x files fanatic... It still has something to offer for you. The other up side, which is a MAJOR thing for me... There was not so much gore, guts, blood and just general nasty nasty graphic scenes... There was some light stuff... (Which I tended to turn an eye from lol...) But it was moderate.... Worth a watch. 7.5/10.

in regards to the OP...

i just saw I heart Huckabee's. the cover of the movie was a bit misleading as it seemed to indicate that the movie was a comedy of some sort. i didn't think that it was... and it alludes to this in the cards that the detectives hand out. it seemed to be an exploration of two aspects of a particular Buddhist teaching, to be honest with you. of course incorporating Buddhist themes into movies is nothing new it was, perhaps, most famously done in the Star Wars saga and the Matrix Trilogy.

we borrowed the movie from a friend so i'll probably watch it again.

Thanks for that Alex. I was hoping for as much.

Chris Carter tries to make a point of layering his works...and with a movie there is greater opportunity to do so. He goes to lengths to use symbolism. A lot is not what it seems, and yet is...that's just the way he does things, and that is one reason why I like his work. Yes, I am a long time X-files fan, dating back to show #1, and only lost interest after Mulder (Duchovney) left the show. Have a long time crush on Scully (Dana Andrews, nothing like a gorgeous red head).

I'm just gonna have to find the time to go see this. Saw the first movie early in its theater run, but I've dragged my feet on this one, can't seem to find any critiques...strange.
