Ain't one thing about the movie being "hollywood" sized. It is as real as real gets, from action to personal plots and demons...

Taken from two real life incedents. (one where a wave hit the tail of a Dauphin helicopter (HH-65), off Oregon in 1996, and one where the HH-60 crashed in Kodiak).

Swimmer school is exactly as depicted. Flight crews really talk to eachother that way (and listen). "Bingo" really does mean the point of no return. On a good day the hoist can only handle 600 lbs. A swimmer really will stay behind if too many victims are in the helicopter.

The Navy really does not like us (but the Marines love us). Coastys rarely lose a fight. We're so underestimated it isn't funny...(except for the Marines).

Yes, we do go out when the Navy is tied to the pier due to weather.

It is a grand story, that tells a tale, typical of the life of an ASM/AST in the Coast Guard. Been there, done that, own the tee shirt...

I watched it the other night for the first time on dvd, I don't like theaters so I waited. My brother was a rescue swimmer, then a chief instructor. The movie blew me away, man. I am in awe of what you guys do, Quahom. Very admirable, and you guys deserve more respect than you get!!

The Star of Captivating Happiness, a movie about the wives of the Decemberists (the men who tried to overthrow Nicholai I [or was it Aleksander I] of Russia) who followed their husbands to Siberia.

Re: What Movies Have You Seen Recently?

Against my better judgment Star Trek Generations- starts well with the original cast (that's how you kill Captain Kirk) and plummets when the Next Gen turn up (and that's not how you kill Captain Kirk...). I much prefer Insurection when it come to Next Gen movies... pity cos I rather liked the series. (the rest suck... but The original cast ones are great-even 5).

Re: What Movies Have You Seen Recently?

I have been wondering if anyone has seen a little flick called "Holes"? I caught it while searching through the sometimes vast wasteland of the entertainment world not too long ago. There is something very innocent yet provocative about it. Hmmm...imagine--I think it was on the Disney Channel.

(pfw--I love the Next Trek stuff! I haven't seen the movie in a while, but right now I am working on catching the television episodes I have missed. Last Halloween, a friend of mine insisted I dress as Counselor Troi (sp?) for a party contest, but I was unable to go.)

Is 'Holes' the one were they are digging a field of holes? I remember the adverts for it- never got around to watching it tho, do remember it looked interesting- must look it up soon.
Yeah Treks great-love the original, DS9 and next gen(although Enterprise should have been shot at birth...)

Do you really, really look like Deanna Troi, crew psychologist aboard Capt. Jean luc Picard's starship Enterprise ? I just knew it...not a surprise... I knew it.

There were rumors that she and no.1 had a "thingy" goin' on, but I don't remember any episodes about it really happening except perhaps as other characters on the holodeck.

Hey, flow--

While I relish the thought, I'm not sure how much I look like the lovely Marina Sirtis. My friend was attending the party as Ahura (she really looks like her), and she thought I could pull off Troi. I have also dressed as a Kliban cat before, too--doesn't necessarily mean I really look like one, lol....

Oh, they definitely dabbled! Maybe even danced. Much is left to the imagination. But I always thought she belonged with that sexy Jean Luc! Alas, however, I think he was rather smitten by the ship's beautiful doctor Crusher. Sigh....

Lol, she and Ryker marry in "All good things". CDR Data dies saving Captain Picard, but not before transferring his memories into B-4 (the Data prototype found on a desert world).

There is one more movie coming out in December 2007.

Really? I didn't know that! Caught a picture on the Generations site of them kissing. Didn't realize they got married! (I did say I was catching up).

Re: What Movies Have You Seen Recently?

Hi Cage and pfw--

Yes, this is the film. You should catch it sometime, pfw. I think you will enjoy it. It is sorta-kinda predictable if you are really paying attention. But even in its predictability, there are some surprises here and there.

Re: What Movies Have You Seen Recently?

holes...with G-d's thumb...I remember there being a lot to that movie...good coversaton with my kids...they had both read the book..

Breach...eh...if it is all true it belies that truth is stranger than fiction...not very impressed.

Ghost Rider...not one of his better selections

Children of men...again not so hot...to many holes to suspend reality.

reading has been better than the theatre of late...

MARRIED ????

Egads...and I was having such a fine time visualizing Troi massaging warm lavender oil into Picard's shiny dome and gently purring as she did so.

Ahura...now there was a fox !

They married in the movie Nemisis (or as I like to call it-the next gen movie that's not too bad until it trys to be star trek 2)-the marrage in 'all good things' was one of many possible futures (I need to get out more...)
The possible 2007 movie is probably going to be a re-cast of the 'original' (kirk) star trek and directed by the guy who gave us Alias- can't remember his name). The big clue being the teaser poster-an original series badge-and that Matt Damon has been mentioned as being a good choice to play Kirk(not definate though)
joss Whedon (Buffy, Angel and the excelent Firefly/Serenity) has been mentioned as a writer involved but nothing definate.
