Why have my posts been deleted?

Must be a glitch in the system. I saw a cryptic note in the staff room about one of juan's posts disappearing...not sure what it going on.

Just wanted you all to know that it's not a conspiracy or anything (at least, I don't think it is...).

I'd assume (yeah, I know) that it has something to do with our zenda server switch...

I'm hoping they are found because if you lost the posts you've written then that means I've lost the ability to read those thought provoking missives!!

Sincere apologies all for this - the hosting company jumped a server move on me as mentioned in the recent news thread.

Good hosting companies can set up a server move so that everything effectively happens instantaneously.

However, crappy hosting companies like the one we're using allow for a time lag, which I'll explain.

The original copy of the site chugs along normally on the original server.

The new copy of the site gets running quickly on the new server.

The problem is, it can take up to 48 hours for all the world's DNS servers - which log actual website locations - to point to the new server location.

So anything posted to the original copy during this time is lost, because the data has already been transferred to the new server.

Got to admit, I'm really narked - been unhappy with the hosting company for a while due to a number of small bugs due to their servers - had planned to move CR to a new server if possible, but was concerned about the disruption it could cause.

However, the hosting company jumped this on me, and it looks like they've not set up the conditions for an instantaneous transfer, leaving some posts lost on the original copy.

Seriously, if I'd have had more warning, I could have moved CR myself to a more reliable server, and we wouldn't have had these issues because I could have done it simultaneously - instead, the dumb hosting company has gone and done it the sloppy way.

Again, my sincere apologies for this all.

I'm afraid not - it's almost certain my email will have been affected the same, meaning I will have been unable to receive emails which were delivered to the original server.

I had been away for a while, when did you get the new server? The pm's disappeared saturday- they were sent on friday. Perfectly logical, I hope it changes soon.

Some of mine were swallowed up also. Good thing I paste any lengthy posts and store them in trash for a week or so before dumping them. I've been losing posts regularly because the log in seems not to remember me while I'm writing longer posts and I get an error message when I try to post and it goes blank. Hence the pasting routine. I usually just re-log in and paste the post quickly to the Quick post box. Works so far.

Nahhhh...couldn't be anything as spurious and machiavellian as all that in today's world. Have I told you guys that the newest luxury hotel-casino going up in "sin city" is going to be called Echelon Place (Echelon is the name of the NSA's global surveilance on communications program) ?

Recall his answer when I speculated that he was an undercover copper ? It was all in jest on my end, but his answer was, "no comment". At least he didn't say he'd neither confirm or deny it .
