Re: Xenophobic America...? Things that may you go Hmm.
As most people these days I do live in a city because that's where work is, but I have always longed to be rural. But these days that's not a viable choice for most ordinary people. We all do what we must, where it is most sensible. Mostly because that's the way the world has been arranged for us all, especially since WWII.

Q
That could be, and I envy your situation if you are "in" nature, for it is the essence of G-d's unconditional love for us.
Some statistical swings stay in my memory for strange reasons. In the 50's the population of the US was about a 50-50- split between rural and urban. By the mid nineties that had changed to about a 25-75% split. So like it or not this is going on and my belief is that it is changing us as a species. One that is less inclined to exist and live in natural environments, and more inclined to live in artificial environments that we create through innovation and technology.

Why worry whether one is strong or weak? Why worry what the neighbours think? If you are right and at peace with your own conscience and in your own heart, what others think is beside the point. Of course, you gotta take responsibility for your actions.

I don't think anybody sees the US as having weak muscles.

We (United States), never had a world domination view to begin with, is it any surprise we don't know what to do with the power we have? We never had goals of ruling the world. We just wanted to be part of a world that did the Abrahamic law thing. That we understood. We wanted to invent and develop and prosper.

This sounds awfully childish.

Why don't you just stay home and let others fight their own wars? I mean, you gotta choose your battles, man!

I can see that this would make one feel awfully vulnerable. But obviously whatever you're doing to prevent it isn't working. "A wise man changes his mind."

I don't know who you are referring to. If you read my post above you will see that I give the US a lot of credit. I say we depend on the US for our existence. However, the continued attacks make me question how things will shape up after the US has lost its last stranglehold. It looks as if that day is not too far off unless you drastically change your strategy. And I am not sure, but the point of no return may already lie behind us. I think that in the late months of 2001 the West made a dissastrous decision.

So what are you crying about? Apparently you're being treated exactly like everyone else in the world. Do you think you deserve more?
I'm not sure what you mean here. I know that my country does not even show up on the world radar. BTW, that is a line I first heard as a joke from a prof who said it in front of the class. It's no secret but so what? We are proud Canadians anyway. What are we proud of? Our homeland. Like most humans, we love the land where we live, the land that nurtures us, that supports us, where our roots grow deep. We have these little jokes. There's also the one about if the American army showed up at customs we'd probably wave them through with best wishes.

But maybe we don't like your idea of protection. Unwanted forms of "protection" can stimulate terrorist acts against you, you know.
All of that aside, you talk like one who has not read my statement that we in Canada depend on the US for our very existence and that therefore we have a vested interest in how the US treats its enemies.

It's no secret that you live fairly high off the hog. A hobby horse, a beach for it to run on, fields.......those are things most Americans (and most of the rest of the world) can only dream of. Probably they can't even dream it because it's so far off the range of posibilities for their lives.

Actually, what you state, is rather diffident....
I suppose we should ignore Canada, like we "ignore" Mexico...
Pity.

Re: Xenophobic America...? Things that may you go Hmm.
I say, people represent government...
that means you tell your government what to do, not the other way around. I do believe that is called..."democracy".
When was the last time that was operative? We have a government that spies on us, lies to us, and is engaged in actively destroying what we thought were our founding principles. Pull your head out man, it's people like you, the "true believers", that allow this disaster to be promulgated. Wake up!

Re: Xenophobic America...? Things that may you go Hmm.
Q, somehow or other you come across like the unbelievers I used to be told about who supposedly were scared out of their wits by catastophes because they didn't have a God to trust in. If I remember correctly all the stuff I've read on here, then you are the Christian who supposedly has an almighty God to trust and Chris is the unbeliever who trusts what he can see. Yet of the two of you, it's him who acts like he's got faith. You're in a super-lousy mood these days and it's showing. Not that anyone can blame you what with world events as they are but hey! I thought it was the unbelievers who were supposed to be like this. Anyway, I no longer apologize for the salty posts I wrote to you.

And what's THAT supposed to mean?
Diffident--reserved, shy, hesitant to act...
Maybe the moment of action has not yet arrived. For everything there is a season... The guy who's out there blowing his top is not necessarily the person who actually accomplishes things. Were it not for the faithful guy back home who keeps on working despite a government (plus armed forces) who is pulling down the country around his ears, the blasting guys wouldn't have any food to keep them at their blasting hobbies.
