Methodist Church launches iPhone app

by Benjamin Graham

The Methodist Church has become the first UK denomination to launch its own iPhone app.

The app, named Chapel Studios, is free to download from Apple’s App Store and features daily prayers and Bible study sessions.

Users can also access the latest news, podcasts and tweets from the Methodist Church with the app.

The Church said the app is designed to complement rather than replace traditional forms of worship.

“In today’s society our lives are busier, fuller and more distracted than ever before,” said Toby Scott, director of communications and campaigns at the Methodist Church.

“We hope this app will offer Christians from all backgrounds a little spiritual oasis in the midst of their busy lives.

“This is only the start for how we’ll use these technologies, but already this is something that people will find useful and inspiring.”

The app’s Word in Time Bible study features a different author every week, with Bible readings taken from the Methodist lectionary.
